re: Michael Scott vs Ron Swanson

Swanson was hilarious, but the show became so outlandish and crazy, that it removed elements from Swanson. It didn't have those certain aspects of a drama that The Office maintained. It's why Michael was able to touch viewers on a much more heartfelt and personal manner.
Also The Office through its Michael run(7 seasons), always made a point to have a straight character and to keep the outside world straight, it allowed for their idiosyncrasies to be much more funny. Everyone in Pawnee was pretty much bat shite crazy. Don't get me wrong, Tom Haverford, Andy Dwyer and Ron Swanson are top characters to me, only Michael Scott, Jim Halpert and Dwight Schrute are ranked above them.
It's those little elements of drama that push them over the top.

Michael carried that show for 6 seasons. It's not even close and I really like Ron. He's just a more likable character for this message board so more people will say Ron.

It's 9-13 Swanson so far.
I love them both. Really tough for me to pick. Ron's a more fun character. By d say Michael was funnier (more range) and more lovable.

Swanson by a mile.
Ron never had an episode where I felt awkward and embarrassed for him like Michael Scott. Particularly the college scholarship episode. Really had a hard time watching Scott after that. Ruined his character for me.

If forced to choose, I pick Swanson's stubborn humor over Scorr's squeamish humor. Both are great characters, but Michael carried his show at points, while Swanson was never required to.

Michael Scott's character is so incredible that the show crumbled without him. Take Ron Swanson away from Parks and Rec and you still have a great character group.

I'm going to say Michael Scott. He was a more complete and multi dimensional character. Michael in the episode where Jan was arbitrating her dismissal was peerless.
