Just out of curiosity, how many of the critics are ones panning it for the "cultural appropriation" of martial arts or feeding into the crap about the casting being "whitewashing"?
Wasn't Danny Rand a white guy in the Marvel comic? If so, how can it be "whitewashing" when the original character is white?
Marvel has made some pretty diverse casting choices in the Thor movie series by casting black actors to play Norse gods.

Kilgrave and the hot friend carried that show. The chick playing Jessica was horrible. The whole Jessica is magically unaffected was also kind of bad. They should have at least tried to imply a reason for it

They did. The willpower it took for her to overcome it the first time is what helped her not succumb to it the second time.

I could never get into the show no matter how much I tried.

David Tennant was great. Great facial expressions, the eyes. He can carry a scene just by his expressions and facial features alone. Only episodes of the modern day Doctor Who I watch are his. His characters are very believable.

Show lost me when they showed that Kilgrave didn't know the difference between right and wrong and Jessica decided to be a selfish a-hole.

Finn bitching and moaning to the press and social media hasn't helped this series.
Now it's Trump souring the waters for billionaire superheroes.

"I think the world has changed a lot since we were filming that television show. I’m playing a white American billionaire superhero, at a time when the white American billionaire archetype is public enemy number one, especially in the US. We filmed the show way before Trump’s election, and I think it’s very interesting to see how that perception, now that Trump’s in power, how it makes it very difficult to root for someone coming from white privilege, when that archetype is public enemy number one. Danny is a fish out of water, and you don’t really understand where he’s coming from. But I think there’s also a level of intrigue. People need to see the full series–’Iron Fist’ doesn’t end until the last episode of ‘Defenders.’ He really goes on a journey of self-discovery, and grows into the role. It’s paced out; it’s a long journey."

Oh, so he's going to go the Ghostbusters route and blame everyone who doesn't like the show.

quote:Let's be honest though-- Mahershala Ali was Kevin Durant at Rucker Park with that cast. He was so far out of everyone else's league on screen that it made it borderline awkward. No one had near the chops to stand on stage with him. Only one close to his level was Frankie Faison's Pop, but he wasn't around long anyway.
the first half of LC was fantastic... then it got boring. quick.
We have a now Oscar winning actor playing our lead villain? Awesome, let's kill him half way through.

Last I checked, the public still loves Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark.

But it meant that Kilgrave wasn't culpable for his actions. And when Jessica decides to be a selfish a-hole at the end of the episode, she actually becomes culpable for all of Kilgrave's actions after that moment.

Daredevil is great when it is an action show. Of course Fisk is great. . .but so are Ben Urich, Stick, and (at times) Karen Page.
Season 2 was at it's worst when the focus was on Daredevil and Elektra. Punisher and Fisk were great. Stick has basically become Ras Al Ghul, motivationally (and it is awful). Elektra is Annakin Skywalker. Fisk is good. Page becomes insufferable and annoying.
Jessica Jones, on the other hand is insufferable without Tenant. All of the characters are awful. But Tenant is so great that he makes the entire show watchable
Luke Cage sucked after Cottonmouth dies. They need to develop Mariah better, and I think they set her up well at the end. I think she will be the villain she is in the comics. . .which will be great.
I am hopeful for Iron Fist. It isn't Batman Begins, BB was trying to be Iron Fist.

I still haven't watched Luke Cage yet because I heard it wasn't that good. I'm guessing by your comment that I made the right choice?
~shrug~
I liked Luke Cage, but I get it might not be for everyone. I think Jessica Jones was a better fit with the much darker story element. Hers and Daredevil have been better at conveying the very dark themes that are part of the Hell's Kitchen segment of the Marvel Universe. Luke Cage's power level forced them to go a bit hokey near the end just to give him a good opponent.
As far as "whitewashing", it's the same complaint that people give about the Ghost in the Shell movie... ignoring the fact that Japanese people themselves are basically saying, "Um, the character is depicted as WHITE in the anime". Mostly because the Japanese could give a rat's arse what a person looks like in their anime.
This is Iron Fist:
A better question might be why the guy isn't as buff as the original.
