Critics are liberal that gave Get out 100%. So for a white guy to be appropriating Oriental culture (Kung Fu) that won't sit well with them.

Seems like bad casting killed this one.
The heroes in the MCU NetFlix shows have been secondary to their success so far. Each show has gone as far as it's villain took it. I've never read the comic, but the trailer makes it look like the villains are the old Asian lady that operates in the background, not a main villain, and the guy that took over his dad's company while he was gone, so basically the bad guy in Billy Madison.

If you cast a guy without any ability to do martial arts or even the appearance of being able to hold his own in a fight then the directions has to be awesome, supposedly this isn't .
Not to mention the two defining features of the Netflix series thus far have been distinct directorial approaches fitting the characters- with Iron Fist you either go 70s Martial Arts or go with something like Hidden Tiger- you need to be distinct; and strong villains- Kilgrave and the Kingpin carry large chunks of Jessica Jones and Daredevil respectively and Cottonmouth was great in Luke Cage-- if they're not going to go all in on the mystic Kung Fu elements there isn't really a good Iron Fist villian and the Hand already kind of tanked part of Daredevil Season 2.

his powers are boring.
I mean unless you're going to go with the "Immortal Weapons" storyline, Iron Fist is going to be hard to differentiate visually from Daredevil or Electra unless he just doesn't get hit which is boring- how do you communicate "best martial artist in the World" in a city already filled with 2 bad arse martial artists?
Part of the problem is really the source material- the bulk of the really good modern Iron Fist stories aren't the kind of comics stories that the MCU has been good at telling.
Tennant and D'Onofrio are Cinema level villians.

I actually stopped watching after that, just had no interest anymore. I guess I'll try to watch those last 4 episodes or so before I start Iron Fist.
No it is complete dogshit from that point on. Diamondback is a terrible villain.

Cottonmouth OTOH.....
Put it this way, I'll be surprised if the Councilwoman can hit that level.

the main complaints were that the story of rich white orphan going to far east to learn karate is overdone at best and "problematic" at worst
If that is what is driving the complaints, then I'm not going to take those reviews seriously. Part of the characters journey is to feel like an outsider in land he trains. If he looks like everyone else, he won't instantly be an outsider to everyone he comes across.

the fight scenes aren't exciting enough
This can be a legit criticism, and coming off of the Punisher's scenes in DD2, a lot of things can look boring. Everything about Luke Cage was boring.

his powers are boring.
If his powers are the same as they were in comic books, I'm not concerned if other find them boring.
I may be setting myself up for disappointment, but I really, really like Iron Fist and am still excited about this show.

Good. The world would be a better place without another Marvel or DC movie.

This. What a lot of critics absolutely do not get is that the show is very faithful to the source material.
Danny Rand feeling like an outsider in K'un L'un because he's white is central to the character.

everybody loved Dr Strange though
I didn't, it was a boring film for me.
I don't really care what critics think, I'll give it a shot because I've really enjoyed these Netflix shows.

you know iron fist traveled to the east way before they "made" that canon for batman?

Luke Cage was boring as frick, but you can't criticize the super hero show with a black lead. It has to be good.
So critics are gonna shite all over Iron Fist to make up for that.
Honestly, Jessica Jones has been the best of the bunch, and that was thanks a lot to David Tennant's portrayal of the villain. Daredevil is good but a slog to get through a lot of the time. I think most of the fascination with the Marvel Netflix shows stemmed from how gritty they were and now that shine is wearing off and they're being revealed as boring.

We have a now Oscar winning actor playing our lead villain? Awesome, let's kill him half way through.

mean, Luke Cage should have been the beginning of this because that show was terrible.
Never even got to Luke Cage, I couldn't get through Jessica Jones. Which was weird because Daredevil was phenomenal.

I will give this one a watch and form my own opinion on it. I'm not too hard on Marvel stuff.
Regarding "cultural appropriation," I think the whole concept is bullshite. While I always view certain movies that portray an outsider becoming the master of "native" arts with skepticism (think "The Last Samurai"), I'm not buying the offensive nature of it. "Cultural Appropriation" is on even shakier ground when the "culture" in question (K'un Lun) is fictitious.
If someone has a problem with a fictitious white man studying and mastering Kung Fu (as many white men have in real life), then I think that someone has a problem with white men, not cultural appropriation. There is little that is exotic about Eastern fighting styles any more, and not every Asian person knows Kung Fu.
I will judge this one like I judge any move: characters, story, craftsmanship. That's what I care about. The rest is self-generated bullshite.

To be honest, the Netflix Marvel shows that I've watched have underwhelmed me. I lasted a couple of episodes with Daredevil and a few with Luke Cage. But neither caught my interest. And that's coming from a long time Marvel fan
Pretty much this. They are mediocre at best (Dardevil), and unwatchable at worst (Jessica Jones and Luke Cage).
