I know this. The man is a planet destroyer.

But Medusa's power is hilariously bad, even though she is a bad arse. Karnak's power is non-existent, but somehow he knows his enemies' weaknesses. Gorgon can bang the ground real hard. Triton is basically a fish to the point that he can't survive out of water without assistance.

Those are not sexy powers. The best power other than Black Bolts is his brother's. Maximus the Mad can control minds and would be a phenomenal villain. Plus the whole history of the Inhumans is absolutely incredible to me.

Like I said, the characters are very well written, but at this point, given that hardly anyone knows the characters, the inherent difficulty in casting Black Bolt and Medusa (you'd need basically a packaged deal and someone who can emote through silence), and the fact that the Inhumans would probably need at least 3 movies just to get to a point of making sense to a general audience, I get the decision.

ETA: more than likely Feige is trying to figure out how the universe continues and is rewriting the outline as he goes like every good writer. Or if this was meant to be Marvel Studios/Disney's attempt to bring an XMen like group to the screen, perhaps they're getting the XMen back?

Deadpool is the most profitable superhero movie in history. Fox won't be giving up the X-Men anytime soon.

In terms of raw profit, that'd still be the first Avengers movie. Now for ROI, yeah that'd be Deadpool

This was probably done so Disney can make room for Indy 5

I doubt that's it. If anything they would have just moved it to another date.

They have a bigger slate now with Spiderman. I imagine they're working on obtaining other properties as well like FF. It probably just seemed like an unnecessary risk at this point. GotG movies are now a huge commodity. Maybe they were iffy about the thing in the first place. Like the script, etc. Who really knows, but this is really not a big deal as the future for Marvel is in great shape.

Feige specifically mentioned that it, along with Spiderman and Ant Man 2, were the cause of their slate being adjusted.

quote:

"Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet."

If it was just a date thing, they could have just moved it back to the second weekend of August.

It's just not that simple.

They have Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Disneynature all pumping out films.

They have a lot to juggle and have to make sure all their various studios don't cannibalize each other as well as having to work with Sony on release dates for Spiderman movies.

They also have to make sure they have to money to finance all of those each year. Disney may be a massive company but even they have finite resources each calendar year.

If it's in Phase 4 it'll be at the tail end so that they can move it to the next phase. I doubt it'll show up on any schedule announcements this year. Feige has shown zero interest in it.

Actually it is. Here is Disney's release schedule as it stands for the next 4 years. Notice the big gap from July until November of 2019? They release at least one movie a month from March until August and then 2-3 movies in each of November and December.

Behind Star Wars, the MCU is Disney's top priority as it is its second biggest revenue generator. They gave freaking James Gunn - the director of Slither - a $170 million to makes a movie of C-List at best characters and he delivered a movie that grossed them nearly $800 million.

Marvel is going to churn out revenue as long as they stick to their formula and make an enjoyable movie. From a business standpoint, they have every reason to do an Inhumans movie. This decision in all likelihood was a creative one given what they are doing on their tv shows, with all of the new characters they have introduced in the last year and will introduce in the next year or two, they don't need The Inhumans anytime soon. Plus, I'd be willing to bet that they have a plan already for Phase 4 since there was a story two years ago about Kevin Feige having mapped out the MCU until 2025.

Hell one call from Fox about a certain set of characters and that changes their whole ballgame for 2020 and beyond.

If it hasn't been made clear already, I want to see Lockjaw on screen.

XMen AoA, Old Man Logan, New Mutants & Gambit(if THAT is ever made) would all have to bomb...very unlikely.

I'm sorry but it really isn't. Again, Disney has a lot more going on than just Marvel. There are many things that go into where a studio decides to release a movie and a simple date shuffle isn't always an easy thing to do.

It's not that east to just move a movie like that. August is not even a normal date for tent pole movies. Usually, August is considered a dump month by movie studios b/c they believe for various reasons it won't do as well financially or critically. Other dump months include September, January, and February. The majority of the time if a movie is released in one of those months you can guess that its not going to be a big hit and probably be right.

If you go back and check, only one Marvel film has been released in a dump month (GotG in August) and only one is planned for future release in a dump month (Black Panther in Feb '18). The fact that Guardians of the Galaxy did so well was a big surprise to pretty much everyone including Disney. If they knew it was going to be such a big hit it would have been planned as a summer or winter release to capitalize on larger audience potential.

As for the release schedule you posted, Indiana Jones is already listed as Disney's big movie for July that year.
