Pete is awesome.
Goddamm right it is. He's gone from a favorite to a douche right back to a favorite. One thing about him that has stayed consistent is that he is badass at his job. He can wine and dine those clients like nobody else.

I have to think that Don is going to end up with the kids.
Don's accomplished so much in his life ever since leaving Dick Whitman behind. But he hasn't yet been a better father than his own. He may be more of a provider and less abusive, but he's had a very distant role.
I think Don finishes this road trip in a spot that's a lot like Pete's (and I agree that we could see Pete being conned by Duck and Hobart). He'll find a quaint farm on lots of beautiful land out in the Midwest or maybe the West Coast. His money will never be spent because the cost of living is so cheap. Then he'll have the kids (at least the boys) come out to live with him, so he can raise them as well-to-do farmers.

I listened to a podcast recently of Weiner talking about Hobart coming after Don in the first season. Don went back to Roger, because Don values friendships more than money.
That is what Weiner said, so I am wondering if it ends with Roger and him boozing it up in Acapulco drinking and lots of women around them
(I do want to see Roger one more time, and really hope for no more sad endings)

I believe that this scene [below] foreshadows a lot. Sally will be the one to raise Bobby & Gene. Henry will probably be unstable after Betty dies and will probably push for more cancer research in the New York area. At this point, who knows where Don is headed. He still keeps up with the kids. But, Sally is the only real connection to the family back in NY. Sally could very well keep this information from her father.

I think you are spot-on.
It's pretty clear Don is shedding "Don Draper".
Now, where that stops, IDK.
The finale has got to answer that, one way or another.
Honestly, everyone else has closure, Roger is going to continue being Roger; I'm not sure he'll ever have closure.

Yeah, I want to see Don still having a good relationship with his kids. I know he has some major flaws, but it would leave a pretty sour taste in my mouth if he abandoned his kids.

I know a lot of you are rooting for happy ending for some of our characters. But I don't think this is what this show is about. It's the fact that life is grim. That change is neither good nor bad. But it simply is.

quote:I don't think he will ever completely abandoned his kids. But the idea that Don is going to be your "everyday dad" is foolish. Bobby & Gene are way too young to understand Don. But, Sally seems to get him. She understands that her father has shitty tendencies. But, that he does love her and want the best for. Similar to how Betty never told Sally "I love you" during the show. But in the letter she finally let it be known.

Peggy and Pete's stories are complete IMO.
Totally agree. I even think last episode could have been the series finale if they wanted it to be. While I think Peggy had her ending already, will they really go with a 2 hour episode and no Peggy? I suppose they could, as they could easily spend all two hours wrapping up on Don, but I always figured there would be more of a send off between Peggy and Don. I do hope to see more Roger in the finale.
ETA: I saw someone say the finale won't be two hours, so maybe I'm wrong about that.

Pete is the only character to be seen in a promo for the series finale. So i don't think his story is complete.

It could totally happen but a "fast forward" episode seems out of character for Mad Men. This isn't the end of How I Met Your Mother.
But I guess it could make sense. Everyone's story is sort of wrapped up besides Don's. There are not many subplots that require immediate attention. Its completely plausible that the show could start and Betty could already be dead.

Curious to see this as well. Seemed to sum up the kids. Sally holding, checking on, and mothering the 2 boys in a way. I hope not. I hope there is at least a phone call between Don and Sally that makes him aware of Betty's condition, and let's him be Dad-like.
Move them all to California or wherever the hell he's going. If not death.
Each character needs 15 minutes to the full show to sum them up the right way. But that is not good drama. Have to leave something for the viewer to mull over. Forever.
But seeing Betty in a long Debra Winger in Terms of Endearment type hour would be horrible and unnecessary
Like to see Roger again, but don't see it being good. Don't want to see him collapse in his office from that next inevitable cardiac event.
I hope the intro ads to begin the season in that outdoor garden party are not some dreamlike/heaven like sequence. For one of the characters. Like Lost.

I try to avoid the promos. I'm guessing if he is in the finale it is because the Wichita job was a scam.

Maybe so. I could have sworn that I remember hearing it was two hours, but I'm not sure.

Personally, I'm glad this isn't a 2 hour finale.
