Yeah, the shootout and car chase comments are really played out on Mad Men threads. If someone is incapable of discussing or criticizing a TV show, it likely means they don't really understand what's going on.

This.

Maybe rewatch breaking bad? Lots of fail here!

Changing topics - The 2nd part of this last season does seem a bit discombobulated I guess. But if I'm remembering right, there was a bit of grumbling towards the end of Breaking Bad too - with Walt sitting on his thumbs in Maine (or wherever that frozen hideaway was) - until the last couple of episodes which were pretty electric. Now I don't expect Don to rig up an automatic machine gun in the trunk of his car to take out a gang of rivals or to threaten say Roger and Joan into providing his kids with "clean" money. But there are still enough episodes left to send this show off with a bang

Dear God. Sarcasm =\= humor. It wasn't a joke. It was a subtle "jab" to express to him that an expectation that she'd leave her kid for a guy she just met is unrealistic. It's called subtlety. I can't believe people are hung up on this, or that it went over their heads.

My biggest issue this season has been the introduction of new characters we're going to have for a whopping handful of episodes (and not really great ones at that) instead of really fleshing out what we already have.

I can only have faith that Weiner and crew have a plan and aren't just winging this. To be honest, the last several series to which I was faithful disappointed in the end--and that's including Breaking Bad (BLASPHEMY) which was pretty weak to me for much of Season 5, was GOAT in the episodes leading up to Ozymandias, and then just kind of mailed it in. I was not a big fan of the last two episodes.

I'm calibrating my expectations. Even at half-speed the remaining shows will be better than most anything that's been on television in our lifetimes. I just hope they don't try something cheesy and unbelievable.

Can't believe I missed this before my last post (likely still just above this one). The last two episodes of Breaking Bad were nothing special. I actually think I was depressed not only about the way it ended but about the execution. And I would have killed fricking Jesse (like the actor, Aaron Paul, who played him) with my bare hands after watching his bitch arse melt down throughout the entirety of the second part of the season. I guess I saw it coming, but man did I hate that kid in the end. I had to fantasize that he was arrested just down the road from the Neo-Nazi compound, sentenced to life for complicity in a number of crimes, including Hank and Gomie's murders, and abused for the rest of his life.

Dayum, the natives are getting restless up in here. People resorting to the ole Stephen Crane "Think as I think ... Or you are ..." blasts left and right.

I think it's dumb that people are shitting on it. I think it's almost certain that we start seeing resolution to some of this soon, and the loose ends will be tied up. With the last episode I wouldn't be shocked to see some 6 Feet Under shite where we get snapshots of the major players and how it all played out for them.

I have watched many sitcoms through to the finale, but I have been trying to think of a single drama I watched all the way through to the finale. I honestly cannot think of one right now. I believe I have lost interest at some point along the way in every single drama I have ever watched until now. The shorter seasons might have helped me stick it out with Mad Men. It doesn't help that I do not watch very many dramas at all.

I never realized this about myself before, that I have never watched a drama through to the end. Interesting. I can count numerous dramas I gave up on, including Breaking Bad, House of Cards, West Wing, Newsroom, Grey's Anatomy come immediately to mind. Undoubtedly there are others.

ETA: Heroes, Smallville, and Alphas are the only non-sitcoms I have watched every single episode of. Obviously, they are all in the superhero/powers genre. No dramas until now with Mad Men.

You need to get your sarcasm detector looked at, baw. She basically said "OH, so I should just leave my kid for you? Some guy I just met?" She doesn't have to spell it out for you and do quotey fingers. It's a given that her kid is the world to her and it would make zero sense for her to say something like that seriously.

The loose ends haven't bothered me, nor has the pace. It's thing like focusing time on storylines I couldn't give much of a shite about at this juncture (see a good majority of an episode dedicated to Megan and her family). I feel like we had so much to flesh out from the first half of the season that could've been done instead of what's been covered so far. It just feels like a lot of wasted potential even if some of this wraps up nicely.

That doesn't mean it's a bad show or not worth watching. But there has been a drop off. And I blame part of that on AMC for forcing a shitty split season when no one else wanted it (Weiner was ADAMANTLY against it).

The people overreacting about the criticism are being a little melodramatic about it though.

I think we're essentially done with Megan now, though, and thank God for that.

Despise this format and that AMC has forced it on so many of its shows is sad.

Its pretty clear that Weiner is setting up Don (or Dick) to return to the orphan status of his birth/creation. Basically he was born an orphan (or at least a bastard orphan) and he will die all alone. Circle of life, we all turn to dust, blah blah blah...
