well which 5 would you take out??
i would replace Bambi and Mulan with Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. You could always consider giving the 1 seeds a first round bye as well

I agree.
The opening of Hunchback is Disney's greatest technical achievement in hand drawn animation, hands down.

I'd break it up into three eras and take some films from each. The Walt Era, the post-Walt Era, and the Rennaissance. The post-Walt Era before the Rennaissance is universally regarded as Disney's Dark Ages, so I would only take one film: Sleeping Beauty, which is sort of iconic.
From the Walt Era, you take his favorite (Snow White), the technical marvel which is by far the most unique Disney film (Fantasia), his last film (Jungle Book), and one more iconic film (Cinderella).
From the Modern Era, you take the film which spawned the Renaissance (Little Mermaid), the film nominated for Best Picture (Beauty and the Beast), and the most iconic (Lion King).
That would give a nice balance between eras and each film has a sepcific reason for being selected. I could see cutting my personal favorite, the Jungle Book, for another middle period film, but why? Those movies were made on the cheap and it sort of shows. I still love them (particularly the Rescuers), but the quality of Disney movies obviously dipped between 1960 and 1990.
You still miss Peter Pan and Pinnochio, but the old era is well represented. You also miss Alladin, but that would come at one of the other three moderns, and I don't see it, or at the only middle period film, Sleeping Beauty. Actually, the omission of Sleeping Beauty is unconscionable.
I blame the Selection Committee for relying to heavily on the RPI.
For the most part this is agreeable. I would sub in Peter Pan for Fantasia and Alladin for Beauty and the Beast though.

Props to you on that reasoning. In all honesty, i just dont have that Disney knowledge to have built the bracket like that.

Now on the other hand. A five year old should have know to put the first animated Disney movie ever made on the list. And for not doing that, i feel like a turd.

WHERE'S IRON GIANT?!?!
Just kidding.
Animated films are a lot better than people give them credit for (like the aforementioned Treasure Planet, Hunchback, etc.).

Sleeping Beauty was made in 1959. Walt died in 1966.
There is probably nothing worth including that was made between Jungle Book and Little Mermaid.

Ooooo... see now I have an idea which may be too late. Do a "modern" bracket of Disney and Pixar and then a "classic" bracket of everything pre-Little Mermaid.
MODERN
Lion King
Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
Alladin
Hunchback
Mulan
Tarzan
Emperor's New Groove
(ENG is a personal choice - I love it as Disney's only "buddy comedy". Feel free to sub Hercules or Pocohantas or Princess and the Frog in that slot)
CLASSIC
Snow White
Cinderella
Jungle Book
Fantasia
Sleeping Beauty
Pinnochio
Peter Pan
Bambi
Dumbo
Lady and the Tramp
101 Dalmations
The Rescuers
The Aristocats
Sword and the Stone
Fox and the Hound
Oliver and Company
MODERN
Lion King
Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
Alladin
Hunchback
Mulan
Tarzan

Kind of hard to do with a 16 movie bracket and and 8 movie bracket. I guess i could have thrown the 8 pixar movies in somewhere. Or just done 32 classic disney movies and no pixar.
I dont know. Im signing off for a bit. If yall want to erase this one and start over just let me know. I just came up with something easy, but apparantly not very well thought out.

No matter how it was done someone would have taken offense to something being left off. Disney has so many iconic movies and everyone has there favorites.
I still don't see how Mulan got in there though.

I think everyone appreciates the work, and it is a good idea for March Madness. But remember, a lot of these movies are from/about childhood which usually leaves an emotional impression. Tough to crack.
Nothing is perfect (look at me with the Sci-Fi/comedy results...held them back because something just isn't right). So we continue forth.
I would request that everyone above join me and delete the critiques about the voting/brackets system and leave it at that.

Aladdin should def. be in but not for Beauty and the Beast. BATB was a Best Picture nominee, if memory serves. It's one of the best Disney has ever done.
I love Fantasia too.
