To further beat a dead horse, below are the movies currently subject to the Disney vault-

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Pinocchio (1940)
Fantasia (1940)
Bambi (1942)
Cinderella (1950)
Peter Pan (1953)
Lady and the Tramp (1955)
Sleeping Beauty (1959)
101 Dalmatians (1961)
The Jungle Book (1967)
The Little Mermaid (1989)
Beauty and the Beast (1991)
The Lion King (1994)

No Mulan, hmmm

You basterd.
You know I admitted I was wrong for putting that in there.
So who you got, Lion King or Jungle Book?

I think Lion King is not as good as our memories make it out to be (still great, but not Disney's best ever). The Lion King just connects with a lot of people because of its timing. It was THE cartoon king for a lot of our childhoods. It started the whole broadway Disney thing.

Soundtrack: JB > LK
Main character: Mowgli > Simba
Supporting Characters: Baloo and Bagheera> Timon and Pumba
Story: LK > JB
Animation: Push
Villain: Jeremy Irons > Sheer Khan

That's how I see it. But I really need to go back and watch JB. It's been a while. I'm probably not giving it enough credit. And like you said, LK has a lot to do with timing too.

I want to know how the hell "Hunchback of Notre Dame" didn't make this poll? Yeah the Statues were fricking terrible, but aside from the statues, this film is an absolute masterpiece. It deserved the make the list solely because of this masterful scene: Hellfire

I can't just agree with this. Mowgli was just a stupid punk and he is a complete idiot for standing up to Sheer Khan. It would be like Simba standing up to the Hyenas and Scar as a child, which he was smart enough not to (said a few things, but was smart enough to run away while the Hyenas were distracted, while Mowgli wasn't and deserved to mauled to death).

And I like Timon and Pumba more. This is more of a matter of taste more than Mowgli vs Simba, which is just obvious who the better protagonist was.

Wow, we completely agree on this. If the statues were not there, this would have been Disney's best animated film easily. They are that bad, they bring a fantastic film down quite a bit. But yeah, the music, the villain, even Quasi was well done.

The opening for the film is the pinnacle of Disney animation too.

My fault on that one guys. Mulan was a personal favorite and thought it would have been a good underdog. In hindsight, after seeing the old school Disney love/passion this board has, I probably should have went with something else.
But I have a feeling no matter what the field was, Lion King and Jungle Book would most likely have been the finals anyways.
