I'm a Dances with Wolves man, and I won't apologize for it.

DWW is a better movie.

Spoiler alert

Legends as a movie takes a dive when his wife dies.

Although, as previously stated, Tristan Ludlow is a BAMF. makes me want to say frick this shite and move to the mountains.

What was up with the early 90s films and their love affair with grand historical epics glamorizing the outdoors/old ways of the world???

My brother named his first son Tristan because of this movie. I agree all three movies mentioned in this thread are pretty good.

I've got Legends of the Fall on my Netflix list.

Also, how is "A River Runs Through it" it looks like a very similar movie to Legends.

'river' towers above 'legends' ... not even close, imo ... 'legend' is a vehicle for brad pitt's hair/masculinity/romanticism ... 'river' is about how fishing connects two brothers and a father who don't really understand each other ... it's based on a book, which is a great read, also ...

I thought A River Runs Through it was also a very good movie.

I'd take it over both Legends and Dances. I always enjoyed it but it became incredibly poignant to me after my younger brother passed away. I ended up downloading "A River Runs Through It and Other Stories" by Norman Maclean. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a short summer read.

The closing voiceover is probably one of my all-time favorites.

quote:

Like many fly fishermen in western Montana where the summer days are almost Arctic in length, I often do not start fishing until the cool of the evening. Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise. Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of those rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

I am haunted by waters.

And of course Brad Pitt coming over that ridge with horses in Legends is a total panty dropper. So hot. I do really enjoy the movie all together though. One I usually rewatch with some regularity.

I'll watch DWW every time it's on. It's one of my favorites. A River Runs Through It is a perfect movie IMO.

Legends of the Fall is good but not on the same level as the other 2.

Watched DWW once and while I can see how it's considered a good movie, Legends has always stuck with me as a much greater movie. I think DWW gets sentimental favoritism from what happened to the Indians. Maybe the reason I don't care for DWW it's because Kevin Costner is one of my least favorite actors. Legends will always be one of my favorites.

I submit that Legends is up there with top chick flicks of all time.

All chick flicks need one of three factors.

1. Brad Pitt.

2. A woman cheating and it is OK.

3. Cancer.

Legends has 2 of them. And for bonus it has just enough guy stuff to make you feel ok about watching it. Until you pipe up and mention how the woman in the film is an absolute whore who puts the vag on every peen in that family.
