A River Runs Through It - GREAT movie. Read the book by Norman MacLean as well. Excellent writing. Brad Pitt - his first great role.

Legends of the Fall - another really great movie. It doesn't get the credit it deserves because of the romance angle and Brad Pitt making all the women swoon, but it is really well done and Pitt is incredible in it. Big, sweeping story that really should be appreciated for the epic it is.

Dances With Wolves - I liked it when it came out, but not as much now. It drags so much and just kind of frustrates me. Kevin Costner is good in it and it is a good movie - but there is so much time in it where not much happens.

quote:

Like many fly fishermen in western Montana where the summer days are almost Arctic in length, I often do not start fishing until the cool of the evening. Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise. Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of those rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

I am haunted by waters.

Perfect scene and words. Puts a lump in my throat every time and my allergies act up in my eyes. I can't even hear the music without feeling it. A truly beautiful movie - sad as well.

The fact that you are getting people saying all three movies are the best says something. They are all really good.

Oh gawd, Legends is an incredible movie, just wish it could have ended better, bittersweet as it was. I like Dances just fine but not as much due to the limited scope of time, place and roles.
