From that article...

quote:

West wrote of the film, “If [Eastwood], intentionally or not, makes a hero out of Kyle – who, bare minimum, was a racist who took pleasure in dehumanizing and killing brown people – is he responsible for validating racism, murder, and dehumanization?”

That's some infuriating bullshite right there. I have no doubt the thought that preceded it was, "damn, how can I get a bunch of clicks? What's the most inciteful, ridiculous sounding, Skip Bayless level of shock thing I can come up with."

quote:

a war movie that is true of one American’s experience can be utterly false to the experience of millions of Iraqis and to the historical record,” he wrote. “Further, it’s no act of patriotism to celebrate, without context or discussion, a grunt’s view

Yup, nailed it. American Sniper is the first war movie ever to show one particular story/point view. Ever. Every war movie henceforth should be careful to include a ten part, Discovery Channel type of information drop about every aspect of the conflict.

Just finished watching this movie, and was excited to come here to discuss it. However, I'm more sad reading this garbage than I was at the end of the film.

True and he did a damn fine job acting in a military movie as well. Heartbreak Ridge is a classic.

They should have told the rest of the story. I am now googling exactly what happened with the Marine on the 2 hour ride.

Movie was long enough. Use your imagination.

Quick question, help appreciated:

I'm going to see the movie tonight. Do you recommend I see it in IMAX or reuglar format?

I've already read the book FWIW

I saw it in regular...It really isn't the type of movie that is built for IMAX.

While there are cool action sequences, the movie is more about what he went through internally.

I would not spend the extra on IMAX but that's me.

Loved the movie btw.

That wounded vet at the end that went shooting with Kyle was a Bossier City native and was in my platoon in Iraq. He actually adlibbed that line "Who's the legend now?"

Have you read Chris Kyle's book? I'm not saying that the person who wrote this may not have wanted attention. But Kyle definitely had a few screws loose.

PsychTiger, I'm not unable to separate the two but I think they need to be taken into account together. My comment was mostly directed at the guy that now hates Jesse Ventura.

What if I despised that POS Jesse Ventura before I ever even heard about the name "Chris Kyle"?

Sorry if your feelings are hurt because Ventura was an idiot long before Chris Kyle dared to "lie" about him.

I started a new thread for that purpose, though I'm not all that confident that the trolls won't frick it up also.

The Navy is not an "Army". Rather than taking a snarky approach I will try to explain. Your profile indicates you are an LSU fan. If true, would it be even remotely accurate to call you a Tulane fan? Because both are Universities in Louisiana and to differentiate is merely nitpicking.
