So I finally got around to watching this series. I am about 7 episodes into it and I have to say

So far, not that impressed. After all I had heard about it, it just has not been very good. I will keep watching but please tell me it gets better

It's more about the characters than the plot, IYAM. You have to get to know them, and it takes a while.

Lanier I had a similar start. I watched the first 7-8 episodes and then quit because it was boring to me. Picked it back up a few months later and finished the series in 2 months. Couldn't get enough. One of my all time favorites now.

I'm not sure where, but you will get sucked in.

Watched the first two seasons. It was alright. Stopped watching it for a few years. Picked it back up recently. It's one of the GOAT TV shows.

frick you a-hole. It was an honest question.

I have discussed plenty of series on this board. No one asked for your shitty comments.

I am continuing to watch. I have heard so many great things about it, I am just surprised it seemed so slow to start. Should like others, like yourself, had the same experience.

Sorry you're not impressed.

Do you need reassurance? Is that the point of the thread?

Are you always this needy?

At the end of the day, it is a great series. It was very difficult to balance, essentially a family dramedy and a mob workplace genre. Even Mrs. Midnight, who is not the biggest fan of mob films enjoyed it.

So, I can't tell you if you will be flipped, but you're not alone in thinking it is a slow starter.

I wouldn't say it gets much better - it's mostly more of the same and you grow to appreciate the characters or you don't. I didn't regret watching it, but by no means was it on the "great" level for me. And I'm more of a dialogue guy than an action guy in general.

Yeah there are definitely episodes where it's just decent viewing but others that are damn good. And yeah kind of a slow start too.

Most shows are that way for me. Even with plot driven shows, I find myself asking "why should I care?" Once I become invested in the characters, the show really takes off for me.

I'm that way with a book too. It takes about 100 pages for the characters and story sink in.

I just finished the 7th episode. I am certainly going to finish season 1. If things don't get more interesting, I may switch to something else for a while

I guess I expected more of a "Mob" style show than a night time soap.

Thanks for the reply..

I really liked the show when it aired.

I did a rewatch and wasn't as impressed. First season, there are some odd music / score choices and some of the acting isn't very good. Junior was bad first season.

Once the show gets rolling it is great BUT, for some this is a horrible show to marathon. I SAID some.

Pretty much ALL of the characters are despicable in their own way.

As much as people complain about Livia and Janice and I almost hate Christopher as much as them because they are evil but he is a whinny bitch throughout the whole show.

Not the best show to marathon. Same reason I have never gone back to rewatch 6 Feet Under. That cast would be hard to stand in large doses even though the show was compelling.

It gets mob like a mothafricka, though. The body count for seasons 5 and 6 is 45 - and only a few are natural causes. Not to be spoilerish, but if anything they heard criticism like yours after the early seasons and started trying to "one up" themselves.

The Dr Melfi stuff is tedious basically throughout the entire series, but once it gets rolling, it's the greatest show ever. Some of the episodes can be bizarre and ambiguous but you can power through those.

What you need to understand is that it's really a black comedy, not necessarily a drama. The first season has so many subtle little lines that are hilarious if you have a dark sense of humor. "Pine Barron's" is the funniest episode I've ever seen. There are also many many A+ episodes such as "Long Term Parking" and "Join the Club" just off the top of my head. Please don't give up on this show, it layed the foundation for everything that's on tv now.
