Season 2 started off on the wrong foot when it used Los Angeles as the setting.
I disagree, I think scummy depressing LA is underrated. The modern noir feel season 2 almost had was cool but it was so poorly written and losing the beast of no nation director (and taking a direct shot at him in s2) was massive drop off
Agreed. We've seen the Hollywood and Beverly Hills part of LA done a million times, but never really the seedy industrial parts that were featured in season 2. If anything, the setting and atmosphere was one of the highlights.

i liked season 2 ok, but i honestly do not remember boobs in any shape or fashion. McAdms didn't show them and Vince's little ginger didn't either.

The chick from Banshee was super hot too, but all the women were whores, literally or figuratively.

Season 1 is great because it was modern southern gothic: twisted religion, sexual perversion, drug use and poverty, but all artfully written and shot. It was the darkness of te south filmed in a way that wasn't stereotypically dumb and racist. Plus, say what you will about the final episodes plot but the whole idea behind the cult and carcossa and te yellow King was and still is enthralling and fascinating because it seems so close to life. Founded or not, how many suspicions do we hold about the rich and powerful in the modern south, especially those that inherited their power from generations? Maybe not to the extent TD presents but certainly we tend to assume that they're up to no good or have been at one point or another. It was southern noir done very, very well

Would crawl through 100' of broken glass just to kiss Woody Harrellson on the mouth so I can taste Alexandra Daddario's arse.
I just finished season 1 for the second time and it holds up really well after multiple viewings. I binged it in about 3 evenings and am looking forward to watching it again sometime soon.

Season 1 was great.

Season 2 would go from a 4/10 to a 5/10 if they cut out 15 minutes of the sad girl singing in the bar throughout the season
thats funny cause shes the first thing i remember when i think of season 2. that seriously is the most depressing fricking bar ive ever seen and ive been in some real hole in the walls.

Every now and again, when I need to make sure I'm living life similarly to ole Rust, I'll throw in the dvd and shoot through a few episodes...instantly I start asking the right fricking questions and everything settles in properly.

You nailed it. Modern Southern Gothic should be more prevalent, because I just think that setting makes for fascinating cinema.

Where do I find this? I looked on Netflix a while back and no luck. It said rights were bought but hadn't been released yet.

That one episode where MM is voicing over talking about " the monster" and the guy comes out in the gas mask and machete and damn that was some intense television at the time .

Serious question from someone who has seen neither season.
Since it's a given that 1 is far superior to 2, would it be possible to watch 2 first without ruining 1? Then, of course finish with the better season.
Are they chronological, continuous, and linked, or do they stand alone?

Been a minute since I watched but I believe they are completely and totally standalone.
I can't recall anything at all that ties one season into the other, so yeah if you wanted to watch 2 first then 1 I think you'd be good.

Yes, yes it was intense. Cohle cutting the beer cans into little figures added to the tension.

I disagree, wholeheartedly.
As a stand alone, I wouldnt have made it more than two episodes. I held on purely out of respect for season 1.
Honestly, the last two episodes and ending of season 1 wasnt good.
Pretty much agree. WH and MM were great in their roles. I'm not sure how S1 would hold up for me if re-watched in 5 years or so. Season 2 was awful.
