So they spent pages and pages in threads shitting all over the show and how it had this impossibly high bar to live up to.

well i'm not going to :sfp: up this thread, but to be fair, that bar is what made expectations so high and meeting that bar would have made it a truly great show. falling well short of that bar left us with a prety cliche'd cop story with random soliloquies of pseudo-intellectualism (which doesn't really fit with the typical/cliche story)

had people stayed consistent with their expectations, in light of what happened, those threads would never have been that big (i mean the ones at the end of the show...well, i guess this applies to both really, b/c the initial threads would never have been popular had those expectations not become common). i was much more interested in having people explain their 180s than the show

hell i said after ep 1 MM was an issue (unless you wanted to just see scenery chewed) and if they did the cliche'd "religious people in hiding are evil" angle i'd be pissed at how it developed. in my defense it, i was real clear about all that after 1 episode

I have no idea what all that means.

Can you give me a short version of what you expected the show to be? I didn't know much of anything going in, only that it was about a murder and was set in Louisiana, and I never got the sense that it was anything other than a murder mystery.

I can't really think of what else it could have been. It was a murder mystery from the beginning. I don't want to make you regurgitate all of it, but cliff notes on what they thought the show was going to be?

Just google for some of the threads (or shite, the seach function might even find them since it wasn't that long ago) and skim through them. That's prolly the best/easiest way.

In summation: Jake wanted some attention, and he got it.

Nah, I don't think it's that. Of course, Jake loves the "I told you I was right!" stance, but I think he just got caught up in the mystery/spiritual side of the show more than the actual case. And that's not all his fault since the show definitely could've led people down that path. But by the time the show wasn't "living up to that," rather than enjoy the show for what it was, he (and others) just got all pissed off about it and ragged it constantly.

McConaughey and Harrelson had the best on-screen chemistry/presence together that I've ever seen on a TV show.

Just finished it as well. Really enjoyed. Not sure if it's the greatest TV season I've ever seen, but the performances were great. I'm gonna do a rewatch this next week since it's only 8 episodes.

I do think I would have enjoyed it watching it week-by-week with time to rewatch each episode and digest it slowly.

First season arrives in the mail soon

And the carcosa scene in the end was... the only reason I felt even a little jilted was because I didn't get to spend more time there.

I found the random Ultimate Warrior speeches tedious, as well

The LSU baseball thing just ruined the whole series basically. Just so unrealistic guys.

I really liked it. Its a murder mystery that had a theme of the occult running in the background. The resolution left open the possibility that the occultish phenomenon was in fact real.....

Believers can thank the true detectives for preventing "The Old Ones" or maybe just "The King in Yellow" from appearing here on earth. the more skeptical can play it all off as hallucinations...

There is literally no way they could have done more with the occult in just eight episodes, not and tie up the actual murders.

Hastur, Hastur, Hastur....

Liked it but IMO the ending sucked a fat one.

Let's face it, TD season 1 was just a Lethal Weapon re-boot..

Just finished the finale a few minutes ago. Never visited any of the threads on here because I hate wading through 50 pages of BS theories and what not. I thought it was pretty good. i would definitely recommend it to other people. IMO, the first half of the season is better than the second. I loved McConaughey's character and his acting was some of the best ive seen from him.

The short version is they spent considerable effort on the mysterious cult full of rich/powerful people and then we didn't find out who they were nor did many of them get any justice. At the end, it's some meth heads and an inbred hick that were running the whole thing.

The other thing that most people felt was left unresolved was they spent a lot of time implying that the daughter had been sexually abused and/or exposed to the cult in some way and then they just left it hanging out there.

Beyond that, I think a lot of people read way too much into inconsequential things and went off on their own tangents. I loved the show from beginning to end, but agree that the cult angle should have been resolved a little more thoroughly. The scene in the Houston projects and Carcosa were two of the most intense TV scenes ever filmed.
