The only show that comes close for me is The Office. Season 2-5 of The Office is pure gold.

I can re-watch The Office and Seinfeld over and over and they never get old. Still give the slight edge to Seinfeld though.

Are all better than Seinfeld.

Man frick that show. It's funny. It's not THAT funny. "Ooooo but it's about nothing!" Who gives a frick? Make me laugh, clown. That's what you're paid to do. I don't give a damn that Kramer is a whacko and George is a self-conscious snob. Is the show funny? Yes. OK great I'll watch it. But don't tell me how wonderful it is because of the stupid conceit that it's a show about nothing.

Veep, Arrested Development, and Frasier are all shows with smarter humor, Scrubs is a show with heart as well as slapstick that would make Mel Brooks proud, and Parks and Rec, Cheers and 30 Rock all have far better ensembles.

I think the office focuses a little too much on story arcs for it to be an all time great. You can watch pretty much any Seinfeld episode independently and be fine. Also The Office doesn't have the consistency to match up with seinfeld. It's prime can stand toe-to-toe with Seinfeld.

Not sure why you find All In The Family laughable as an all time great. You do realize other people think differently from you, right?
quote:

The show is often regarded in the United States as one of the greatest television series of all time.[3] The show ranked number one in the yearly Nielsen ratings from 1971 to 1976. It became the first television series to reach the milestone of having topped the Nielsen ratings for five consecutive years. The episode "Sammy's Visit" was ranked number 13 on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time.[4] TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time ranked All in the Family as number four. Bravo also named the show's protagonist, Archie Bunker, TV's greatest character of all time.[5] In 2013, the Writers Guild of America ranked All in the Family the fourth-best written TV series ever,[6] and TV Guide ranked it as the fourth-greatest show of all time.[7]

And be honest...

You've never watched an episode of All In The Family, have you?

Your sitcom credibility is now zero. Unwatchable? It's on its 12th season. Seems there's a whole country and network that disagree with you.

I'm totally ok with that.

Timeout.

I believe we need to define what a true sit-com is. Many shows we named are filmed in front of a live studio audience. I don't believe Rosanne can be compared to Curb Your Enthusiasm. Two completely different types or filming.

You can thank Home Improvement for Thursday night becoming "Must-see TV" on NBC. Seinfeld got arse raped in the ratings when it was going head to head with Home Improvement on Wednesday nights so NBC moved it to protect it.

Thank you. Some episodes are really funny and some have obvious cultural impacts. But many are not really that funny at all. Many are out of date by todays technology like the movie time episodes or where did we park.

How I meet your mother is funnier to me that Seinfeld.
