no, it's not action filled, but complaints about that are typical in today's generation ...

Oh good I was waiting for this post

I like plenty of movies without action in them, this movie had no point and just kind of ended without a resolution

another trait of today's generation ...

it is a senior project for a cinematography school graduate, there is no story just a bunch of lush sweeping shots of green grass, water and trees

I call it the thin red sleeping pill

It's a beautiful movie. Most of you would probably say Transformers is better. Sad.

I'll also give this response a

Yea it's a beautifully shot and well acted movie, but the movie does not tell a story, which is the reason I watch movies, I like stories. If you just like good camera work, good acting, and political statements than this movie is for you.
If you like plot driven movies that tell interesting stories, the movie is not for you.

I swear some of you are only on this board so you can act cultured and superior to everyone by pissing on 90% of movies and claiming movies like this are masterpieces

Eta: oh and Transformers sucked worse than this movie

Transformers sucks so wrong, I like a movie set in history depicting real events to be somewhat realistic. This movie was how some intellectual snobs think soldiers feel or what they think about in combat. Oh and they are wrong they are not thinking if tigers prowling jungles or beautiful jungle rivers. Movie is insulting to US and Japanese vets.

You can't go into it thinking of it as a war movie.

worst Japanese soldiers crying and whining as American soldiers over run them

It has been a while since I read the book, but I tend to remember those scenes were closer to the book than allot of the material in the movie.

Wait, what? It is insulting to veterans to imagine that soldiers are capable of being intellectual?

Edit: The novel is not bereft of philosophical musings. You can sneer about that if you want to but the author was, you know, there so he should be given some latitude in the matter. Also, ironically, Mallick softens and mainstreams allot of the material of the novel. The language was cleaned up and Fife's homosexual relationship is completely absent.

Utterly forgettable movie. The only part that sticks out in my mind is "I blew my butt off, I blew my but off!" Though I do like the soundtrack with the aboriginal chants.

This in a nutshell. This movie came out when Saving Private Ryan came out, so it gets a lot of hate for not being an action war movie. If you let it, it can really get in your head. There are a few moments when it can drag, but I look at those scenes as mental breaks.

The Thin Red Line is an amazingly powerful film with stunning visuals. A must-see film. It's more about the psychological side of war. Don't expect the same amount of gunfire and explosions you're used to seeing in a war film.

Thanks for letting me know I didn't miss anything. Left for the restroom & waited out the last 10 minutes in the lobby.

To the OP: I think if I were in your shoes, I'd have to watch it to see if it's really as bad or as great as people are saying.

I fell asleep watching The New World....I don't understand Malick movies at all. Maybe I'm an unwashed plebeian for not liking his "style" so take it FWIW. His movies aren't my cup of tea.
