To each his own. I'm going with:

1. T2
2. The Road Warrior
3. Die Hard
4. Lethal Weapon
5. Aliens

True Lies

winner

true lies is the "darkhorse" contender.

but the answer to the question is T2. It's almost perfect as an action flick.

1. Terminator 2
2. Die Hard With a Vengance - awesome action flick that was really funny too, but not gimmicky.
3. Die Hard
4. True Lies - loved this movie as a kid. Same action/comedy model as DHWAV. But some comedy was a little gimmicky, points deducted.

My wild card for top five: SPEED

I'd put T1 over T2 and Die Hard over both of them with Lethal Weapon thrown into the mix for good measure.

Not the magnum opus of the genre, but if we're compiling a list, Point Break should be mentioned.

I may get laughed at.... but one of my guilty pleasures is "Commando". I will watch that shite every single time.

Speed?
I'm surprised no has said The Rock yet..
Last Crusade?
Casino Royale?
is Heat consider an action film?
Escape from New York?
Blade Runner?
Mad Max?
Lethal Weapon?
The Matrix?
The Dark Knight?
Independence Day?

I know some these fall into sub genres, but T2 is a sci-fi film as well.

Definitely.
It's either T2, Die Hard, or the matrix for me.
