Saw the movie in theater, loved it then, rewatched it a bunch, quoted it many times, most recently just a couple days ago in Boobs Magee thread, but...

Fake shark looks fake. Shark behavior is unrealistic in parts. Scuba tanks don't explode when shot.

OTOH, the human side, film structure, suspense, etc are perfect.

Conclusion: Needs Star Wars CGI treatment then full remake. (Just kidding, just kidding.)

I honestly don't get the downvotes and the meme you posted. My only criticisms were objectively true. Jaws ain't the Koran.

ETA: I'd also add the use of real shark footage in the cage scenes was a strange choice, as that shark looked nothing like Bruce.

I'll save you the time on the novel.

The mayor and his cronies are indebted to the mob.

Brody and Ellen are bored with their marriage. Brody feels like a heel just for looking at bikini clad vacationers. Ellen gets with Hooper because younger brother of an old flame.

Hooper is a pompous arse.

Quint is more of poacher. The boat returns to port after each hunt.

Shark eats Hooper, quint, and dies from being harpooned and bleeding to death before almost eating Brody. It gets suspended about 25ft deep in the water by the barrel.

White Shark got the title change to Creature around the time it was made for TV.

Quint Indianapolis speech put it into perspective for me of how great the scenes on the boat are.

This. All day everyday. Quint was the best character of the movie.

There's a good doc on the making of Jaws on Youtube.

It definitely was not the perfect shoot.

Spielberg thought he was going to be fired they were so behind schedule.

And Charlton Heston wanted the role of the chief. (But Spielberg rightfully realized he would overshadow the shark...who he wanted to the only star..."hey, there's Moses battling a shark" - "hey there's Ben-Hur!")

Surprised Roy Scheider didn't have a bigger career, or more opportunities after that exposure.

It's as close as a movie can get. The only thing I wish wasn't in the movie are the shots of the real shark when Hooper is in the cage.

Chief was probably set for the rest of his life after Jaws and Jaws 2.

I agree w/ you. That horrible mechanical shark keeps it from being perfect. The scene where it chews up Quint is almost laughable with the rubber teeth bending.

It's my favorite movie of all time.

Also I know we've talked about shooting from the sharks perspective but John Williams also had to sell SS on the main theme. Spielberg reportedly laughed out loud the first time he heard it. There may be more remembered themes in movie history but I can't think of one.

Great whites are also known as white pointers, so it would have made sense.
