It's official — Disney has confirmed everyone's favourite bullwhip-toting archaeologist Indiana Jones will be back for another movie.

CEO Bob Iger announced the news during an interview with Bloomberg on the recent Star Wars sequel The Force Awakens, promising "more great stories with George Lucas' Star Wars and Indiana Jones, by the way, which will be coming".

Although he did not comment further, there has been speculation swirling as to whether there would be another movie — Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn indicated his support for the film, and director Steven Speilberg also hinted he would sign up with lead actor Harrison Ford.

"As long as there's more adventures out there, I've got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done," Spielberg said in an interview with Screen International.

He added that it was "certainly not [his] intention to ever have another actor step into [Ford's] shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman".

Ford, now aged 73, last played the treasure-hunting archaeologist in 2008 in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which received mixed reviews from critics.

Fellow actors Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper have previously been rumoured to replace Ford if he did not return.

There is currently no word on a release date for the movie, possible plot, or cast.

Mixed reviews? I thought it was generally accepted that Crystal Skull was the worst movie ever made?

I could see Bradley cooper

Let Lucas in the room but good god don't let him write any dialogue. That was the most wooden script and acting since the Star Wars prequels

This has a chance. Also no Shia!!!

It has a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes and 65^ on Metacritic. I personally enjoyed the film, though clearly it wasn't on the same level as the originals.

I enjoyed it as well. I'd put it over "Doom" - then again, I enjoyed the Star Wars prequels too.

When you've fallen and you can't get up, a whip could come in handy.

Assuming this is released in 2018, that would be 37 years between Raiders and 5.

Or don't?

Why not adapt it?

For some reason, Hollywood is against adaptations. Most stories are adaptations anyway. I know, I know - the reason is money.

But Indiana Jones is an adventurous, witty, intelligent, and handsome character who gets into hijinks while searching for artifacts. Surely there are other professions that could have a similar plotline and story. National Treasure came close. There are plenty of other professions that could work.

What made Indiana Jones great was Harrison Ford. You will not replace him. Might as well try to find new magic in a new character.

But again, I know I know. It's about the guaranteed money.

Huge Indy fan. I'm against making more Indiana Jones movies simply because you can't replace Harrison Ford. I know more people will remember him as Han Solo, but for me, his iconic role will be Indiana Jones. He was made for that role and the role was made for him.

Ford is 73 now? And they honestly don't think he is too old to still play the part? I guess not.

Keep Lucas far away from this one and I'll probably go see it.

No. GotG is also Disney. They won't get him tied up in two huge IPs with the possibility of conflicting dates.
