Kinda like what I said earlier? Like it's a good movie for Star Wars fans?

Here's how I'd describe Rogue One positively: it's the greatest Star Wars fan film ever made. Does that make it a good movie? No, but it's fun to look at.

Rogue One is separate and provides you no context for who he is.

That's all you're given about him. You would be questioning why the frick he was there if you had no context.
The movie isn't outside of Star Wars universe. It's a snapshot in time in the currently known Star Wars universe. Being "separate" means it isn't furthering or addressing main storyline or plot.

You don't watch a WWII battle flick and expect the film to explain who Hitler is/was.

But what relevance does Vader have on the plot? Nothing. He just shows up at the end to give fanboys a raging boner. That's his only purpose.

Ummm, Hitler is pretty easy to explain: evil genocidal dictator who wants to rule the world. You always know how Hitler fits into WWII movies without any context to WWII.

Also I think I remember you once saying that The Godfather didn't have good character development, which is fricking nonsense.

He came up throughout the movie.

Like what? That one time in Mordor? Maybe they mentioned him before then that I don't recall, but I can't remember if there was any context brought to Vader in the movie.

Did you watch the movie? Vader had quite a few speaking parts.

Am I missing something? He was only in Barad-Dur and slicing up the Rebels at the end as far as I'm aware.

True, but it segues perfectly into ANH.

This is very presumptive. If a person never heard of WWII, say a young child, then they would have no idea who Hitler was or why battles were fought and showing Hitler at the end of a film would have no meaning - which is your complaint about Vader.

Without context, neither Hitler nor Vader are inherently known. It's assumed the viewer has some basic knowledge of WWII or Star Wars.

I dont get all the people shitting on Rogue One. I watched it for the 2nd time last week and it was even more amazing. I was literally exhausted at the end of the movie. It was like I didn't want it to end.

I didn't give 2 shits about TFA. Kylo Ren was laughable, Finn was insufferable, and Han was even disappointing. I wasn't emotionally involved at all. And oh yeah...REALLY!!! Another freaking Death Star?!!

The thing is, in most WWII movies, you don't need to see Hitler in it. You establish a horrible Nazi who takes orders from him, and then you form your own opinion about Hitler because of it. It's how the original and Empire approached the Emperor.

Regardless you know how Hitler fits into WWII with only very little said about Hitler himself. You see what he's done. The number one rule of movie making: show don't tell.

Vader is the Emperor's enforcer and they don't make that clear since he's nowhere else in the film. He just shows up in the end despite the fact he should have been directly involved in the third act if he were the Emperor's enforcer. He makes no sense from an outsiders perspective. Hitler does as just an evil dictator from a distance.

Then tell me what other scene he's in or mentioned? I can only remember Tarkin saying to summon Lord Vader, and that's it.

Yes.

That's why we have an M/TV board.

And Vader was in a scene earlier when he was talking with Krennic.

Rogue One is, very simply, a gift to fans of the original trilogy.

It attempts to integrate the prequels into the original lore; it's a direct prequel, not 20+ years beforehand. If you know Star Wars, you don't need any explanation of Vader. No contrived early life history, he's just a menacing, Force-choking figure who's of the Empire, but not of the Imperial fleet or military.

We get a revisit to the Empire at it's peak, with the early days of the rebel factions, before it coalesced into the Rebel Alliance. We get a couple cool battles with real Tie Fighters and Storm Troopers, not some random Republic vs Banking Clan or Trade Federation stuff, not some post-war battles between the leftovers after the Empire fell.
Luke wasn't the start of the Rebellion, it was present before he left Tatooine, and this was a very nice fleshing out of the Rebellion as he knew of it.

Maybe it could have been better, if we saw Biggs defect when the pilot in Rogue One did, and he stayed behind while this one went with the team. But I was very happy with what they gave us.
