I think it was more of them knowing the guy was going to die and allowing it to happen.

Pretty sure they had some tense words when the whole thing was going down where Freddy's son got into trouble and Frank went down to meet with Freddy (against everyone's advice). Didn't Freddy say something about them not really being friends then? And then there was what he told his grandson. And then there was the time he said something to Remy about Frank never shutting up or something else.

I thought those old wounds were healed when he got him the white house job, to be honest.

No reading the whole thread but 7 episodes In and how can the president need s liver and be 3rd on the donor list? Let's be realistic about that for a second.

true, but they did say that he was level 1 or something. My guess is that people who are in imminent need go to the front of the line versus people who have 6 months or more?

Could be regional as well, as the time to transport....I really have no idea, my guess is that they did research. All the liver story brings in is the Wife/Stamper story.

To me, Frank and Freddie's relationship is one of the deepest parts of the show. You get hints here and there that Freddie has always just tolerated Frank. Last season, he told Remy that back at the rib shack, he could just walk to the back if he got tired of talking to Frank, but he can't do that at the White House. I do agree that Freddie is one of the few people on the show that Frank really does care for, but he goes about trying to be his friend by being a benefactor, and I think that bothers Freddie. He always tipped too much at the rib shack, got Freddie a job at the White House, and even had Freddie cook for the President and the First Lady at Frank's house. But, the truth is, Freddie is old, jaded and just doesn't give a shite about any of that. He's never going to feel "honored" that someone graces him with their presence. And deep down he thinks that Frank just sees him as someone to cook for him. Frank never asked Freddie to actually sit at the table with him. Finally, even though he talked his way out of it, the picture of Frank's dad with the Klansman probably didn't help things either.

Another thing I've been thinking about is how Frank seems to despise charity and entitlements, but is always trying to just hand things to Freddie. The first thing he said when Freddie told him he was leaving was "do you want a raise?" Like I said, there's just so much to their relationship. Even when they would be sitting at the rib shack just shooting the shite, something about them always seemed tense to me, like it was all hanging on by fewer threads than it seemed.

Maybe more will come out. I made the exact same comment you did. Frank actually genuinely seems to care for Freddie. And we can say that about how many people?

1. Claire
2. Doug? Tough to say, because Doug is so useful to him.
3. Meachum? Seemed really fond of him after a while ("gay in a threeway" hookups aside) and seems really affected by his death

Maybe there's more to it.

I don't know if it's because his accent bothered me in The Killing

The dude is the same character, smarter than he lets on, has style of speaking minus the hip-hop interjections.

I know it's weird, but WTF is up with the hair on the back of his head. It always looks clumpy like he hasn't washed his hair in a few days.

Even though Frank is a Dem, he is a satire of Bush.

The Underwoods are 75% based off the Clintons.

Just like Bill launching missiles in the middle of the Lewinsky scandal to take some of the press off that.

Just finished. This season was whacky and mess. But for some reason I loved it. We have so much to dive into and discuss.

Good season.

Claire as VP running with Frank seems so implausible I want to say the season is a sham. But Trump is about to be the republican nominee so I guess anything is possible.

I said the same thing when they were introduced at the DNC in ATL. But then I thought about this years election cycle and said "frick it. Anything is open game"

On a different note, I really enjoyed Frank's hallucination scenes.

That kind of seemed weird to me at first as well, but I thought about it. Are they going to let a kid die to save an older man? Plus, the president may have been able to survive longer than the other people in line until his turn, kind of like what happened. I just kind of let it go after thinking about it.

Other thing that doesn't make sense is you don't need a donor list anymore. The liver can regenerate which allows transplants from living donors. They've been able to do that for a few years now.

Just finished the whole season, a few thoughts:

Agree with most that there was too much Claire this season and she seemed to be the only one accomplishing anything between her and Frank. Her running for VP is laughable as was running for office in Texas, but as JBeam pointed out, I guess anything is possible after witnessing our current election cycle. I don't get how she was so incompetent as ambassador last year but somehow this season was running the show. Also, could see the affair with Yates coming from a mile away. Oh yeah, and her mother is a bigger bitch than her. The closing scene was awesome though. As much as we want to hate their characters, seeing them do something so ruthless somehow makes me pull for them.

I was pissed when Lucas went crazy but good to see Tom redeem himself and pick up the story. He was such a dick in the first season and refused to believe anything in the next two seasons but came through. I don't think we'll see the Underwoods just escape the story either. He knows what they have done and I imagine will continue trying to take them down next year. Maybe we'll even see Jeaninne step in and help him connect the dots to the murders.

Doug is one weird motherfricker. I mean, seriously, dating the wife of the guy he essentially just killed? I guess it shouldn't be surprising given his relationship with Rachel in the previous seasons. Either way, I can't imagine this is going to end well.

I'm going to miss Meachum, he was one of the best characters on the show, even though the Threechum was one of the weirdest things I've seen on a TV show.

And as far as the Freddie thing, I don't think he's ever really liked Frank as much as Frank liked him. He pointed out in the 2nd season that he didn't want Frank's charity and there was obviously a racial/class divide that he couldn't get past.

All in all I thought it was the best season since season 1. Even though some of it was unbelievable, the assassination attempt and hostage crisis created some great tension and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Me too. He should have been the one to bring it all down on Frank by exposing him with the story...not going nuts and shooting the president

Oh yeah, and forgot to add that I wasn't sure how I felt about Joel Kinnaman's character. I guess anytime I see him I think about the junkie cop he played in The Killing, so it was hard for me to see him as a politician. Not sure if it was his hair or voice or what. Although he did have the politician's fist down. I thought Conway was a good character though, just not sure if Kinnaman was the best casting.

I really can't get over his Character on The Killing. That's all I can think about when I see him. Also, his wife is a fraud as well.

I think Im going to miss Meechum a great deal. I wanted him and Frank to grow old together. Especially since he was so loyal.

Pretty much how I am as well, but I think that bodes well for his role in Suicide Squad
