Sorry to all for the long-windedness.

I respect you as a poster and you mostly make valid points. I agree with mostly everything you said. But, if you didn't know who were readers and who weren't, would her post have even made you blink, or say spoiler for that matter?

Honestly, I don't think anyone with common sense would think her answer was anything short of her opinion, if you didn't know she read the books.

what did you think about the giant?

When I watched the show I was a little disappointed because I was expecting them to be bigger. Re-watching that gif made me realize that when I was looking I was concentrating more on the giant than the height discrepancies.

Not disappointed any longer, so thanks for posting that :)

I wonder if he looks like it when he's asleep.

Also, is the giant in the books?*

And I think it's very different when we're talking about her skills with Needle vs. skills with a sword she is unfamiliar with. I would assume castle forged steel of that size is probably heavier. By what we have seen in the show she has likely not had near enough training to do what she can against an obviously accomplished swordsman without her "own" sword.

Excellent point. Fighting with something so rapier-like like Needle is different than fighting with a much heavier weapon like she had.

IMO you can kinda tell when spoilers are afoot. But I never accused anyone of specifically posting a spoiler though. Although there were some mildly spoilerish stuff posted (nothing serious), my point was to try to avoid all the potential bad by separating the book info altogether. As nonreader, I don't want or need my enjoyment "enhanced" by book readers (like NY said).

But what if readers want their viewing enhanced by discussion with those that have "fresh eyes" and haven't read the books? You all seem to think it's readers trying to insult you when really some of us value your opinion and want to discuss the show.

The giant was a shocker for me, though I guess we should have expected it. Maybe not that soon, though. And I didn't expect them to actually be working with humans/wildlings. I think the discussions between Bran and his nurse and the way some things have been revealed, i.e., dragons, white walkers, wargs, and the deeper something Jojen was referring to about the three-eyed raven should have us expecting that all of the stuff that was thought to be legend is actually real and will slowly start to show up throughout season 3.

Oh, and magic from the guys that live in the House of the Undying in Qarth. Those guys were freaky. This isn't from Sunday's episode and I suppose I should go back and just look for myself, but does anyone remember if when Dany's dragons were burning the guy if any of the dragonfire touched her? I ask because I was wondering last night about the properties of dragonfire versus ordinary fire versus wildfire. We know ordinary fire doesn't harm individuals with dragon's blood (basically Dany). I wonder if that also applies to dragonfire and wildfire?

ETA: And what determines whether or not one actually HAS dragon's blood? Is it like a recessive gene? Is that why her brother didn't possess it but she does? Maybe they were only half-siblings...I don't know, but I really want to, unless of course that means bringing in spoilers! So maybe it's just something to ponder

*the* giant?

Mance mentioned that he had gotten the giants (plural) to come with him as well. Also, I could have sworn I saw at least one shot of 2 or 3 giants moving with the larger group.

I can understand that, but it's a double-edged sword with that, because we're not on a level playing field. Your thoughts are influenced by your wealth of knowledge. If you could manage to discuss without saying anything from the books, then it could be okay (even though we're still not on even ground). But some can't do that, so it kinda spoils it for all.

The show has tons and tons of information that is shown, but never explained. I don't see the difference between someone who hasn't read the books, but watched the show 5 times to catch everything explaining things. Everythnig being discussed is part of the show, and the intent of the creators is for the audience to know this stuff.

You are such a fricking pussy. Non-readers were saying I was cool about making surface reaction comments like "that part was awesome" last week. I make one post that wouldn't have even been a problem had someone not went into the book reader's thread, and now I'm a villain? Pull the dildo out of your arse dude, you are overreacting like a little pussy bitch. What has belle done? Nothing

Books and show differ too much on this issue. That's all I'll say.

Interesting. Viserys, IIRC, seemed to believe that House Targaryen had dragon's blood within them period. Now, he was clearly mistaken about multiple things, so he could be wrong, but he could also be a bastard. The way the GoT universe treats bastards is entirely context dependent (see the Lannisters vs. Jon Snow), and without knowing much about their sire (other than the fact that he was called the "Mad King") it's difficult to ascertain whether he'd try to pass off an illegitimate child as a rightful heir. I guess all things being equal the simplest explanation is Viserys was a bastard, but I'm not so sure I want to put all my eggs in that basket as of yet...
