I feel like the show has done a GREAT job of hiding everyone at Kings Landings true intentions. Cersie/Littlefinger/Tywin/Tyrion/Varys do we have any idea what they are really up to???

Meanwhile, Rob/Daenerys/Arya/Jon/etc are soooo easy to read it seems.

Maybe I am way off but that's the impression I've got.

it sucks because tyrion is obviously the most like tywin out of the lannister children. tywin just refuses to see it because he's a dwarf and because he killed his mother in childbirth

I'm jumping on the Tywin/Tyrion train

This idea just popped in my head, it could be crazy, but I feel like there's something to it. Tyrion is DEFINITELY a blindspot for Tywin and he (Tywin) clearly blames him for her death. Do we know who the mother was? I may have forgotten, but is it possible Tywin's wife was the center of a scheme Tywin had concocted to secure the throne for himself? Her untimely demise threw that scheme out the window so now Tywin lost his shot and has to be content with his Plan B which puts a Lannister on the throne, but not HIM. Maybe THAT'S why he resents Tyrion so much. I find it a stretch to think he was just so in love with her that her death made him super sad. But again, if she wasn't connected to the throne this idea kinda goes out the window.

I mean, the show IS called the Game of Thrones for a reason.

yes but i think it was stated that money may be more important than the throne itself. that money is power in GOT. i dunno maybe not. i think if you have money that's the most important thing but a direct line or good relationship with the crown ain't exactly gonna hurt.

It seems Tywin legitimately believes Tyrion is at fault for killing his mom/Tywins wife.

That or Tywin is so egotistical that he is quite literally ashamed that he could have produced an imp.

It's both, thus why he is so blind to Tyrion's positive attributes.

I think Cersei is the most transparent of that group. Varys and Littlefinger are completely inscrutable -- that's why they're two of my favorites. Tywin is between those two groups, but it does seem like he's very Machiavellian.

Tyrion I'm still digesting. When Shae asked him to leave with her he pretty clearly indicates that he wants to stay because it's all he knows and is good at. His appeal to Tywin for Casterly Rock, though, makes me wonder. Would he like to just get away from all the scheming and retire to lord over his own lands? Have a somewhat "simpler" life? I'm not sure yet.

ETA: TDT, wasn't it said that House Lannister is the wealthiest house? Obviously you have to keep that money coming in, but when you're that wealthy the only way to move upward is to secure more political power. And as for money is power, as Cersei demonstrated to LF, "Power is power."

yeah i get that, and maybe we don't know enough about tywin yet, but it seems nothing is gained by turning tyrion away. he could be of value to tywin. and tywin seems pretty savvy.

Then why did Tywin appoint Tyrion to be hand of the King during a three way gang bang of a war?

anyone remember if when Dany's dragons were burning the guy if any of the dragonfire touched her? I ask because I was wondering last night about the properties of dragonfire versus ordinary fire versus wildfire. We know ordinary fire doesn't harm individuals with dragon's blood (basically Dany). I wonder if that also applies to dragonfire and wildfire?

it kinda looked like Dany's shackles got burned off at the end. I was thinking either the dragons breathed fire on them and burned them off ORRR she became so angry, her skin got so hot that she melted the shackles off herself. Either way, if the dragons fire is different from regular fire, I don't think it harms her either way.

ETA: And what determines whether or not one actually HAS dragon's blood? Is it like a recessive gene? Is that why her brother didn't possess it but she does?

I didn't consider that he could be a bastard, I was just thinking it was a recessive gene.

I thought this was just because the shackles were magical in nature. When the dragons burned the person who had cast the spell the spell was no longer binding. I can't really base this on anything, but it seems to be a common trope of how magic works in many fantasy settings, or at least I think it is

Fun Fact of the Day: he's Lily Allen's younger brother

Yep. Bluegrass posted the video of the song she wrote about him, years before GoT aired. I'm sure it never comes up around him.

yeah i honestly never thought of that either. i thought it was the whole "every time a targyrean (sp?) is born a coin is flipped" thing.

btw this thread is way cooler when people are actually talking about the show.

i know. i come to this thread because it is about the show exclusively. book reader thread is usually bitching about leaving something out/changing something, predicting when something will happen, etc etc. Barring my mishap earlier in this thread, i promise i have been good in these threads. i mostly read people's thoughts, but like to comment on an awesome scene or something similar on occasion
