It would be less realistic if religion and power thereof didn't play a role in this kind of story, but it does seem a bit forced as all of the families have clearly just been going through the motions when it comes to religion and none believe in it. Now all of the sudden there is tremendous power in how this sparrow dude commands the will of the masses through his special servitude to the gods. We never see any evidence that the masses care about the gods in a significant way, so it's a bit of a stretch to think he is backed by all of them in a meaningful way. If Tommen killed all those religious monk guys, would the masses in KL really take up arms?

I am accepting it for the story's sake. But when you look at it, it just doesn't hold up..

It holds up to me. Cersei basically got rid of all the competent advisers after Tywin died by either pissing them off(Kevan) or sending them away(Jamie and Mace). Thus she would have more control and decided to use the High Sparrow as a means to finally eliminate the Tyrells, thus giving her complete control over Tommen

The High Sparrow basically played her like a fiddle the entire time. I think Lancel had told him long ago what Cersei had done, he played her perfectly using her to gain power and then when he had built up enough clout he turned on her.

Tommen will not risk attacking them because if he does, they kill their hostages and become martyrs. If that happens Tommen might be dealing with a revolt.

I do agree it is dumb that they have gained so much power, Tywin would have never let them even have an ounce of power but he isn't running things anymore, Cersei is and she is completely clueless.

He's the Pope. The Pope is gonna have some stroke over religious people/fanaticals. Fanaticals have taken plenty of hostages and done plenty of harm with small numbers against overwhelming odds.

They took that guy off the street and gave him supreme powers. He was the leader of a small group of fanatics/terrorists and now he's wielding more power in the realm than the king.

Part of the problem with the Sparrows has been the lack of emphasis on religion in the previous seasons. I had to go to wikia to read about the GoT religions. Other than magic, not much was told about religion. Sparrows came out of nowhere.

But, I'm really enjoying season 5.

Sparrows kinda came out of nowhere, but we know there's a large underbelly of impoverished angry folks in King's Landing. Remember how they attacked the royal party, or how Princess Sweet Tits campaigned for their approval?

Could be dangerous if the High Sparrow gets them riled.

But I agree the role of faith hasn't been adequately addressed. Took me a while in earlier seasons to figure out the difference between maesters and priest dudes. Still not 100% clear.

I think Littlefinger set that up. He told Olena that he had something for Cersei.

In one of the episodes, they had him cornered but backed down. I found that interesting. Littlefinger keeps a finger on everyone, the previous High Septon was a patron of his brothels.

I'm very, very tired of being trolled on the Sansa/Ramsey thing. It is fine if they want it play it out, but they need to stop with the horseshite like tonight where Sansa cuffs a weapon. Do it or do not do it. It has become tiresome.

They have to wait till episode 9 to kill Ramsey

If she kills him right there in the courtyard, they hang her up next the old lady. Maybe she wants to give herself a chance to survive.

Ramsay is a great character... just like Joffrey. And, just like Joffrey, I will celebrate his death. His slow, excruciatingly painful death.

Yeah I don't get how anyone can say this was a bad episode. Several perceived alliances were broken.

Stannis and fire crotch
Sparrows and Cersei
Reek and Sansa

I also want something to happen with the Sansa and Ramsey storyline, but I don't think it's slow. It's only been going for a few episodes.

Little Finger...what a creepy little pimp. Dude is playing chess with everyone. Curious as to his decision with Sansa, and to give her to Ramsey. Not sure he has a specific plan, but just plays the best hand he has at the time.

Oh, and dem prison titties...

I too think littlefinger has some control over the sparrows or whatever the religious group is called. And if that is true, than it makes that plotline a lot more sensible. Very satisfied with this episode. I like littlefinger. Id be curious to see what he does if he ever makes it on the iron throne

I think Ramsey may be better than Joffrey. I love his smuck face he makes and that creepy arse smile.
