Hard to argue. I'd add Mike Myers, who hasn't really been mentioned yet, and Will Ferrell.

Separately, for the women:

1. Gilda Radner
2. Kristin Wiig

No possible way I could answer this. So many funny ones through the years.

Ferrell, Hartman, Farley, Murphy, Radner, Curtain, and Chase are probably my favorites.

Yes! He can save practically any skit no matter how bad it is. His facial expressions alone can make me laugh.

Will Ferrell, Hartman and Farley are my top 3. Ferrell and Hartman had the same versatility, they could be funny as straightmen, impressionists etc .

Murray is also elite in his versatility. He was just before my SNL time

On top of this, I've always argued that he has legit rapping ability - definitely better than Samberg. His Demi Moore rap missed the youtube revolution literally by only 3 months. (Luckily, he still caught it with Lazy Sunday.)

Will Ferrel is the funniest. There are more versatile, smarter, more talented cast members, but Ferrel is the funniest.

Eddie Murphy. Any other answer is just wrong. This is not subjective - no one has ever been a bigger star on that show than he was, not Chevy, not Murray, not Ferrell. Nobody. And he was 19 frickin' years old when he started SNL! He dominated that show and single handedly kept it going after Lorne Michaels left, then he became the biggest movie star and stand-up in the world (for a while). If you're too young to remember Eddie in his prime, I pity you.

Bonus fun fact: Who is the only cast member that started SNL younger than Eddie Murphy?
Anthony Michael Hall, who was 17.

I love the cast from the early to mid 90s. I grew up watching chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Phil Hartman, Tim meadows, Kevin Nealon, Michael Myers, Dana carvey, David spade, and rob snider.

He was good, but Phil Hartman did what Parnell did first, longer, and IMO better.

It went from that to that crap they have now. I haven't watched Saturday night live since will farrel was still there.

Me too. Also Chris Elliot. I loved that group. Ferrell also hit the ground really running hard and out absolutely everything into his time there. Especially the first few seasons.

You really could say the same about Ferrell. That's what kind of splash he made.

Robert Goulet
Alex Trebek
Blue Oyster Cult's Gene
Marty Culp
Etc.

I mean people tuned in to SNL just for him pretty much. And that opened the door for Kataan, Hammond, etc.

Without a doubt. I could watch those seasons over and over. Just a great cast from top to bottom.

One of the best things about Hartman was he was a little older than your average SNL cast member so he brought some maturity to the cast. Unlike now where it seems to be trending younger (I think).

Farley is the pick for me. And I think Darrell Hammond gets overlooked a lot but some of his impressions were the hardest I've ever laughed at SNL.
