Upon watching the dvd release I was still pretty pleased with the product. Still kinda unhappy about how Luke was presented. I think maybe in the grand scheme of the overall series this movie maybe looked back on as a chance to do some cool stuff with Luke that was not capitalized on.

If that was the force awakening, then it needs to be put to sleep. It was the definition of meh.

Why did they have to make Luke a homeless wreck. I think they may have ruined the character. How does he come back from that. Also the downvoter can eat a d. Nothing worse than some damn nameless faceless downvoter trying to anomymously shite on a quality post.

It's getting worse for me on rewatch. It's a pretty mediocre film IMO.

I really like this aspect of the movie. It was a great core plot point to drive the story. If he is used well in VIII and IX, then I think VII becomes an even better film.

It was meh in the theaters, it was just NEW SHINY STAR WARS! after a long period without Star Wars. People are starting to see what it truly is now.

I think they will kill him off Obi Wan style. People want him and he will take over the movie. I like Rey, but I much rather see Luke in action.

I still think it holds up

The last scene was awkward as shite. She just held out the saber for like 2 minutes

Also Finn was an awful actor

No, his character is where it should have been and was originally planned to be in the Original Trilogy. He shouldn't have been partying with the others. Maybe the biggest missed opportunity (next to Han's death, which was completely made up for here) is it should have ended with Luke walking off into the Binary Sunset. Luke should become the next Obi Wan. It's a fairly logical arc for him.

I respectfully disagree. The way he was presented really seems to have trivialized his decision to not join the dark side in the original trilogy. He seemed unable to prevent the dark side from resurfacing and seemed extremely weak, which is not really the way I wanted to see the character after all these years.

Whats really wierd is people think Luke is Reys dad. But their is no way lonely luke was impregnating anyone. He looked like he smelled terrible.

I was a Star Wars Kid from the beginning. I watched it. It was pretty much the same the New Hope. Same basic plot.

I was really looking forward to it but it really was nothing unexpected.

The first time I saw it, I was a little hesitant. The second time I saw it; much better. The third time I saw it, I appreciated how great it was and how it did everything it needed to to win me over. Was it perfect, oh no. I would have liked things a little differently but nothing is perfect.

I have come away with the opinion luke made a mistake not joining the dark side. At least he probably could have showered now and then.
