How about leaving the sliding glass door open?
That was stupid too. Denial is one thing, but they're just being overly stupid throughout this whole show so far.
But it's a good point that people out in LA are just a different breed...like the ones who are seriously terrified by the sight of a gun and all that.

This is one of the things that bothers me. Didn't it take time for people to "change" in TWD? Weren't they surprised as hell when Shane got up zombified right after being shot by Rick! But here in the prequel everyone is changing right away. I can live with it because if it did take time this show would move a lot slower but still...
I believe it's different for everybody. For example, some turn instantly (like the paramedic dude), while some don't (like the dead people in the church in the opening scene, who later seemed to have walked away at some point when Travis went back).

And randomly, the fricking military shows up just in time to save the day?
It is just lazy writing to set up the martial law storyline.
I briefly searched Google (no answer), but this series is being treated as a one off season to show the start of the ZA, correct? In other words, it is not going to extend to the point of Rick waking up?

That is my understanding of what it was/is supposed to be...basically a miniseries dedicated to shite hitting the fan more than anything else.
But if the ratings are super strong, I could see them turning it into an actual spinoff and continuing the storyline (which I'm not sure I would be for to be honest). The last thing they need to do with TWD is oversaturate it (more than zombie culture already is).

But how severe does it have to get?
I don't know, we're following a family of unprepared and dysfunction. I can't stress enough how fricked in the head the people of los Angeles are anyways, especially when it comes to a panic.
Last girl I dated was from Los Angeles. Lived there all her 25 years. Never left the city much, never even went to north cali. Has to pull off the road, with other drivers, and shake and panic because it's raining hard. And that's real life lol..over rain. I don't think the dude's mind cant accept what he is seeing yet. In this world without Romero films..it's kinda like Morgan said to rick, if its the first time youre hearing it, it must sound crazy.
It doesn't matter though, we know what happens and what's coming. So they need to start accepting it quick and come up with a plan.

That is what I am hoping it is. I hope this show concludes by the end of the sixth episode, but the pacing has me concerned that it won't.
I can give this series six episodes, but not multiple seasons. As much time that has been spent on introducing the characters, the only ones that are remotely likable are Madison and Daniel.
Like you said in one of your earlier posts, this family would be one of the first to go. They still are not even arming themselves, but instead trying to hug it out with the "sick" (this is like Ebola times 1,000,000 and they want to get personal with the infected? GTFO) after witnessing their dog being eaten.

They are still good, but have been slipping since the record opener. That is telling.

I get that, but they keep being presented with evidence time and time again. At some point, you have to recognize that there is a problem, and that shite is hitting the fan.
It's one thing to be skeptical and think the druggie son is full of shite, but when you keep seeing shite go down over and over, denial at that point makes you an idiot crazy person. And these people seem like normal, logical people for the most part.

Right, but not only are these people not panicking, they aren't even making sound decisions.

Next week is the middle of their season, I feel it will be and episode that takes things in a direction. New characters too, I'm also wondering how long they will actually be set in urban Los Angeles.
But I agree, upon the broken bones dealer coming for you and seeing all this. I'd have left a lot sooner. I've turned down living in LA twice now, and a lot to do with because of the size of the city, and how things work there.
With the military involved as they are now, I think eyes will be opened. And blackened.

Second season consisting of 13 episodes was green-lit even before the premiere of the show

A good game of monopoly makes all the bad stuff go away. :)

This. Where did you guys get this was a mini-series? This thing was greenlit for season 2 before the premier and I would bet it goes for a minimum 3 seasons based on being able to ride TWD coattails alone. I'm hard on the show but I like it. There isn't anything else on anyways.
Some of the best shows are the imperfect ones. It's fun to Monday morning QB these shows.

The premise made it seem that this series would lead up to the point when Rick wakes up, which is around three weeks (IIRC) after the outbreak and society has completely fallen by then.
So will this go past that point or will it take three seasons for the show to progress two weeks? What are we on now, day 3 of the outbreak?

I am going to assume this show will go past the point where Rick wakes up and run concurrently to the other show with an alternate cast and located on the other side of the continent.

I wouldn't have a problem w this at all! I'd love to see what LA looks like several years after SHTF and get caught up to "real time" w Rick's group.

Good the more WD the better.
I'd love another spin off from the government officials point of view.

Just watched it. My thoughts:
The escape from the Barber Shop was the Most unrealistic riot I've ever seen The extras were obviously just jumping up and down in place. Looked like the crowd in a cheesy teen football movie.
Why would the mom run back through the maze in the backyard of her neighbor's house to get back to her house and warn her husband instead of going through the front door and then down the sidewalk to the driveway her husband just pulled into?
Barber with the Double Barrel was badass.
Subtitle scene was Ill advised...took me out of the story for a moment.
What an odd request this early on for the mom to ask the ex-wife to off her if she turned.
How were the military so sure the Asian lady had turned right before she hugged her husband. That happened a bit too quick to be believable.
It's a shame that this is the same universe as TWD because I feel obligated to watch it in order to get info about the original show...which I love. FtWD so far is pretty terribly written and directed; and I was optimistic after the pilot.

What about a zombie threat is going to make the entire power grid go down, then come back up, then go down again? Are the Zombies eating the power lines like squirrels? Sure, the visual was kinda cool, but the flickering felt more like a B-movie. But arriving after an absence of two weeks, Fear didn’t really make good on elements a new show must develop: Forward momentum, and a deepening of regular-character details.
It’s become clear that one of the challenges of Fear is that, because we as viewers know more than the characters about the nature of the zombie apocalypse, this frequently puts us in the position of watching and saying impatiently, “Come on, come on, don’t you know you should be slamming that knife into that moving corpse’s brain?”
