And what Tom Clancy book should have been a movie?

IMO, "Hunt for Red October" is his best movie, with "Clear and Present Danger" just behind.

As far books, his novels had a ton of characters and sometimes hard to follow, but "Red Storm Rising" should have been a movie.

Russians' have a major incident with their oil pipeline and production, so they invade Europe for oil. WWIII breaks out. This was written in 1986, so it has the new stealth fighters and bombers for the USA. The Russian MIGs didn't stand a chance.

To be honest.....as good as HfRO is....Shadow Recruit.

I felt it captured the essence of Clancy's Jack Ryan the best, as well as being a decent reboot.

Was saddened when any thought of a sequel/franchise was DOA

HfRO is my favorite.

Without Remorse (In the Jack Ryan universe) should be a movie. It's been stuck in development for years.

Hunt for Red October

I also wish they would have filmed its direct sequel The Cardinal of the Kremlin.

Love them all, but I'm fascinated by the drug cartel so I've always been partial to Clear and Present Danger.

Sorry, but they fricked with the ending of this movie from the book so badly I couldn't take it (and Patriot Games was worse).

HFRO was great.

Clancy's earlier books were the best. Once he started trying to be super technical, they got a little plodding at times.

Still cracks me up that Without Remorse and Rainbow Six got their life because Clancy was going through his divorce and since his wife owned 1/2 of Jack Ryan, he starved her.

I think this is where Fred Couples got his idea for having severe back trouble while going through his divorce.

I'm praying the renewed US/Russia rivalry leads to this happening.

Damn good book

As far as movies go:

1. Red October
2. Patriot Games
3. Clear and Present Danger
4. Sum of All Fears
5. That shitty Jack Ryan action flick with the Star Trek guy

Hunt for Red October is great, but for some reason I have always preferred Clear and Present Danger. I did read the book for Clear and Present Danger but not Hunt for Red October, which maybe the reason why.

Without Remorse

Not in the Jack Ryan series, but chronicles a very pissed off John Clark who single handily takes down a crime ring with extreme prejudice.

Great book but way too many moving parts to make a coherent movie

The "trilogy" of DoH, Executive Orders, and "The Bear and The Dragon" were pretty enjoyable

Can anyone tell me what book Robby Jackson was assassinated?

I remember reading a background passage in another Clancy book stating something about Jackson became president and was killed by the KKK

Had no idea that this was the case. WR and RS are probably my favorite books from the perspective of sheer badassery. The John Clark story is pretty remarkable.

Definitely Without Remorse. John Clark's wallet is the one that says Bad Motherfricker on it.

In between books.

The last Jack Ryan book was The Bear and The Dragon. Jackson is still alive at the end of that book.

Teeth of the Tiger was the first in the Jack Ryan Jr. series and makes a reference to Jackson being assassinated.

Cardinal of the Kremlin was my favorite novel in the Ryanverse. Rainbow Six or The Bear and The Dragon would be great movies.
