Movie was bad. Lacked personality and everything just seemed dull. There's multiple scenes that could've been totally scrapped and it would've made the film flow better.

The dialogue was absolutely dreadful. I was so bored at the halfway mark of the film that I considered walking out of the cinema. I'd give it a 3/10.

I mean you definitely won't have a clue about a lot of stuff, but you should still be able to enjoy it

What does that even mean?

I took it as Goldstein was young and idealistic. She was very ambitious which is one reason she lost her job initially. She seemed plenty powerful but really didn't duel much, small sample size.

Newt was great. Redmayne is a great actor. The creatures were presented beautifully.
I agree Depp will make a great Grundewald but he will need to flesh out the character more.

Eh, I didn't mind it. I liked her character overall. I was surprised at how powerful Newt was. He was kicked out of Hogwarts, but yet he could apparate very quickly and use non-verbal spells with ease.

It wasn't just him though. Almost everyone uses spells non verbally.

Honestly I took it as they were more badass back then than they are in present day. Kind of like how the average high school kid was much tougher than kids are these days.

To be fair, they were all pretty advanced and well out of school compared to the original series were all teenagers. Newt was the only one not necessarily far out of school, but had been chasing beasts and obscurials around.

I liked it overall. It definitely felt like an introduction movie though. I thought they should have given a few more references to some of the trouble Grindelwald and his crew have been causing, just to setup the following films. They mention him plenty of times and you realize that he is a bad guy, but they don't go very deep on why he is so bad and what he has been doing up to this point.

The movie was fine but I have major issues with it.

Why didn't Grindlewald kill Newt when he had the chance? Why did it not seem like he was interested in killing anyone.

Also, the US obviously has the death penalty here and he surely would be convicted. Why are they going to "hold" him instead of burning his arse.

Why is Grindelwald so old here. Did not like Depp. Doesn't come across as the man Dumbledore would fall in love with.

Didn't like how America was portrayed.

A few other things but later

He's never been big on killing if he doesn't have to. He only stunned Gregoravich to steal his wand. He isn't as monsterous as Voldemort.

International fugitive, they don't have authority to sentence

He's pretty accurately portrayed age wise for 1926.

I will chime in with this one now after seeing yesterday.

I really enjoyed it overall. I thought most of the characters were great. Goldstein's sister was so fast in reading minds though, I thought that was a spell where you would have to want to enter someone's mind. She read everyone with ease so why didn't she know about Grindlewald being in the ministry?

I really liked Newt and his love of the creatures and use of them in battle. I would say that he was a very awkward student but very talented and was most likely kicked out for covering for Lastrange.

I hated the look of Grindlewald in the movie. The small sample we had of Grindlewald as a younger guy, he was very clean cut with longer hair. Now he seems to be a strange looking psychopath. It was just a strange deviation than anything we have seen of him before and after this point in time. I would assume he wanted the Obscurial to try to experiment and harness the power of it since that is why he was expelled from school for.

I think it would have worked better to let Graves stay Graves instead of the reveal. Graves would make a strong and great right hand guy to Grindlewald. I hate that they wasted him into being Grindlewald.

No, it wasn't. They got destroyed and then the newspapers of Grindelwald's rise to power appeared. Not to mention what killed them was white/blue arcane shite. Not the blackish shadowy obscurial

OKAY

Am I the only one walking away from this movie screaming

NEWT IS GRINDEWALD?!?!?!?

My wife and I are literally in a fight about it because I wouldn't stop saying it in the movie. He has the hair, the attitude, the approval from Dumbledore. His background is mysterious, he "saw a girl go through" the same stuff the guy in the movie went theough trying not to use magic.

NEWT IS GRINDEWALD

I agree. Colin Farrell was great.

BTW, I'm very very very much in love with Queenie. She is amazing.

Stop dragging your crackpot theories into other threads. It's dumb and will always be dumb.

Dumbledore and Grindelwald were damn near the same age. Newt was expelled and Dumbledore was a TEACHER at Hogwarts who was opposed to him being expelled.

If Newt was Grindelwald, who is still the same age as Dumbledore, then explain how he was magically a teenager again who was attending Hogwarts?

And that's not to mention they actually showed Graves turning into Grindelwald. Give it up man, it's dumb and has always been dumb.

I'll have to pay attention next time I see it, I thought it was an Obscurial he was chasing, setting up the main point of this movie, but could easily be wrong. Don't get my point wrong, he absolutely has no problem killing, but mainly those he sees as beneath him. From the little we know about him, he has shown more restraint when it comes to killing wizards to say Voldemort who killed anyone that got in his way basically.

Grindelwald also didn't go to Hogwarts, he went to Durmstrang.

Well, he wants to use people.

But I'm pretty sure it's showing that it's grindewald is causing chaos in Europe.

The obscura isn't revealed until half way through the movie.

Very good point. That also would have made it better to have him using Graves, under like the Imperius Curse or something.
