it's a small point. i will be quiet about it

if i wanted to get truly nitpicky, i'd discuss how it would be nearly impossible for apes on horses with 1 gun/magazine to win that battle...or asking why the armory was away from their compound

I think his motives are very well established even in the first film.

I did notice that the apes didn't seem to need to reload.

But I just let those things go pretty easy in a movie.

I was thinking that the entire battle....that they will get slaughtered because of ammo expenditure in their initial suppressive fire charge.

Nope.

Can someone tell me: Is it necessary for me to see Rise before I see Dawn? I plan to see the first one at some point, but I really want to see Dawn tomorrow. Would I be missing some key backstory? TIA

Strength in numbers. Humans wouldn't stand a chance against a desperate group of monkeys.

I would. Caesar gets a great setup in that movie.

Nope.

Easily the biggest problem in the film.

I thought that was going to be the narrative turn... Apes run out of ammo. Humans slaughter most of the apes. Apes mad.

You really can't appreciate the entire character arc of Caeser without seeing the first movie.

Yeah, but these people were violently attacking someone. He spared people he saw as innocents or had been kind to him. Koba wanted to kill them all from the start without mercy.

Noticed that too, but know that that happens in 90% of action movies, so I let it slide.

I felt Koba's personality was established within the first few seconds he appeared in rise. He is clearly an overly aggressive alpha beyond what rocket was in rise. He is only loyal to Caesar because Caesar freed him from who he hates the most. When Jacobs watches koba spelling his name and then staring back at him it's pretty clear

Also Caesar lets his dog off the leash so to speak when he allows him to kill Jacobs. He's an unstable psychopath and the rediscovery of humans sets him off again. It also presents an opportunity to get revenge and usurp Caesar

His behavior after the first sighting is usurpacious whereas before he seems to be adjusting well

Long story short: the sight of humans triggered a psychotic break

They made him look scary for a reason...I know it's an age old trick and obvious but is imagine the writers and both directors wouldn't describe Koba as misguided or a fallen angel

He's evil. He was made to be evil but that's what he is

What did you think of koba as a movie villain. Obviously doesn't top ledgers joker or vader, WW, maleficent, but holy shite I think he is somewhere pretty high on the list and very memorable

It was a change of pace from the mastermind mold of villain that is the craze lately.

Comes across as almost a force of nature....implacable.

Doesn't really strike me as a particularly memorable one as a result though.

I don't think he's one of the all time greats, but I think he was good. When the third act finally started and him roaring over the flames, I certainly didn't see that coming, and thought he was great.
