Being up to date has nothing to do with it. I'd take 6 year-old Cyclops over an in his prime Rick Grimes. Subsequently, I'd also take 115 year-old frail Cyclops over Grimes. 10/10 times.

Okay...
I say we do a list of
14 Marvel Heroes
14 Marvel Villains
14 DC Heroes
14 DC Villains
and 8 Misc Heroes and Villains
Once we agree on that list
We put them in a bracket generator or randomize them in some fashion and have at it.

Seriously though, either your do the property brackets (DC vs. Marvel), or power origin brackets (Aliens and Celestials, Super Humans, etc.)
That's your first go.
Then you just pick the Top 64 yourself or in this single thread. We aren't having Blink, and Carnage (not a hero really), or Plastic Man, etc.
You're basically picking the cream of the crop. Limit it down to 26 DC Characters 26 Marvel Characters and 12 others That makes it easy. Or something like that.
You know for a fact that Wolverine, Thor, Hulk and Spider-Man are in. And probably Jean Grey, Captain America, Vision, etc. I mean there are at least 20 heroes that you DON'T have to vote on. Maybe have a vote for the last 6 slots...people have to choose between Human Torch and Thing? Cable and Punisher? Gambit and Jubilee? But make it quick.
Do the same for the rest.

I will give you guys a chance to say who shouldn't be in it. We will take the consensus top 28 and then get ready to move onto DC.
