Russians never had a problem killing their own.

These were largely Ukrainians that were killed by Chernobyl. Stalin killed close to 4 million Ukranians by starvation in the 1930's. It was no wonder that Ukranians mostly welcomed Hitler in WWII. And then Hitler slaughtered them too. Stupid move on Hitler's part, they probably would have fought for the Germans. The 20th century was pretty tough for citizens of Ukraine and Poland.

Never doubt our own arrogance. Three mile gets toss around a lot for potential, but has anyone read about Davis-Besse. Had that engineer not got caught lying about the damage to the vessel, no telling what might have happened there.

The industry is littered with OE, just got to hope people do their jobs. It’s a tough industry and one I don’t ever want to work in again.

Any documentaries on Three Mile Island. It seems like one of those topics that many ppl have forgotten about over the years.

Pretty much everyone either wants or has wanted Ukraine due to its agriculture. It's the Kansas of Europe and god knows how many civilizations have fought over it throughout human history

This episode reminded me of a really awesome phenomenon called Cherenkov radiation “electromagnetic radiation emitted when a charged particle (such as an electron) passes through a dielectric medium at a speed greater than the phase velocity of light in that medium.” Obviously nothing is allowed to move faster than light, so radiation is emitted in order to obey this law.

All the way up the chain of command they minimized the accident. Nobody wanted to be the bearer of bad news because of Lenin and Soviet propaganda BS.

Are you new to leftists? That’s what people want here, for the state to reign supreme.

Solid series. You feel for those being commanded to do things that you know will kill you because refusing will.... also kill you.

I liked the first episode. It took me about halfway through the episode as it got more and more intense for me to finally ignore the British accents.

I watched this one on YouTube this morning, goes over all the high points I remember from training.

The podcast explains why they decided to stick with their British accents instead of fake Russian accents (Similar to the film "The Death of Stalin").

I had no problem with the British accents. Easier to understand compared to Russian accents. And there is no way this miniseries would succeed if they did everything in native language with subtitles.

Watched the first episode. I enjoyed it. It was frustrating to watch the inaction and the pure denial from the people in charge. The way they showed all the weird stuff (the glowing fire, the dead trees, the sickness, the dead birds) was really creepy.

That was a goddamn horror movie, and I loved it. It was way better than I expected, and I expected something great.

It will only get more gruesome from here. We haven't even gotten to the firefighters returning home from the planet or the kids given up at the insane asylums in Belarus.

Wow. Just read the wiki on that. Horrible. And to think that the leading theory on why it happened was adultery caused murder/suicide.

Scary to think that we are all just one whore wife away from a meltdown.

I felt so bad for the nuclear engineer who was subtlety forced to go up to the top to check the reactor when he very well knew what he was gonna see. And then he turned around and his face was red.

I thought the first episode was awesome. It’s a very interesting story. I spent an hour researching the city of pripyat after I finished the episode.

It's tougher for me to watch the guys down the chain that knew the test was bullshite but did it anyway. I can see how that easily happens though. A lot of our commercial nukes are run by ex Navy Nuke guys, some of those guys can be intimidating, especially when things go south. The culture of stop when unsure is definitely preached pretty thoroughly now though. It's still tough to make that call and stop work, especially under time/management pressure.
