I felt like it was implied that he did it for several reasons:
Get rid of Finch. She wasn't controllable with bribes or fear. She had to be disposed of.
Also, he anticipated the already agitated public would somehow blame Supes. The same reason he orchestrated the deaths in the desert. He wants to send a clear message - where Superman goes, death and destruction follow. He is not our savior.

Did they explain why Lex blew up the Capitol Building? I feel like that would have helped a great deal.
Yes. They explained everything much better-as well as giving much more backstory from Africa and Lex's plans.

I don't know what to tell you. It wasn't the forced darkness I had a problem with. I just hated MoS because I found it boring. Once again, I don't like Superman. He's boring to me. That has a lot to do with why I hated it.
But he didn't bother me as much here. Mainly because it felt like a Batman movie featuring Superman.

You have a strange image in your head of a 14 year old girl. If she looked like she did in Fast and Furious I would agree...but she doesn't.
I agree she looks like she put on a little weight, but her outfit makes her look bigger than she is, in the bust region.
She doesn't even have cleavage, more b/c it's almost impossible for her too, so they have to make a suit that makes them look bigger, while not showing cleavage, which wonder woman has always had.
She weighed 100lbs, at 5'10" before Wonder Woman, which is extremely underweight for her height. Hell girls that are 5'2" look extremely underweight at that height and weight. She gained 15lbs for Wonder Woman, which is still considered extremely underweight. She should weigh a good 130 at least.
I still think she did a good job, and i'm a fan of hers. I just think they should have casted someone that looked more like what we expect Wonder Woman to look like.

That's promising. I really wanted to like this movie so I'll probably give it another shot.
But Lex framing superman for the Capitol Building and then never bringing it up again was fricking stupid.

Oh there is. Also Supergirl and both Wonder Twins depending on what kind of mood you're in.

I'll give the extended cut a chance, but very little of the theatrical version made any fricking sense at all.
It was truly awful, and I wanted to like it.

Just watched it again. If you hated it the first time, you still will. It doesn't fix any of the major issues. If you liked the theatrical cut, this just gives you more ammo to try and state a case that it doesn't suck......it still does though.

Yeah maybe, he only had what, 17 lines in BvS, maybe a few more in the extended cut?

OK that KIND OF explains why Lex did it but was there any aftermath? I mean in the theatrical version everyone just kinda went about their business after that.

Pretty sure there's a WW porn with Tori Black out there somewhere.

But yeah Lex was pretty annoying. Not sure why they made him all Joker-like-psycho. He's supposed to be more of a mad genius type. Not Mark Zuckerburg with a psycho mean streak.
This was my main complaint. I thought it was good otherwise. I really enjoyed it.

So who has seen both? I saw the theatrical version and liked it ok; but then I could understand the criticisms too, I just didn't hold a superhero popcorn movie to the high standards some others did, I guess.
My personal opinions re the original cut:
1) Affleck was a great choice as Wayne/Batman
2) Gadot does just fine as Wonder Woman, and I have no problem or reservations in her upcoming solo movie
3) Cavill LOOKS like Superman, and I like the Lois and Clark relationship
4) This ISN'T the Lex I would prefer, but he's very easy to underestimate, which he takes full advantage of
5) blowing up the Capitol was pretty easy to figure out without an extended cut; it was character assassination + removing Sen Finch.
6) "Martha"... it wouldn't have been my choice. Just came across as a bit clunky.
But it was pretty damn clear that Batman became what he did because of his parents' death, and they made a point of having him continue to have dreams about his parents. Martha was his dead mother... and now Martha is someone else's mother, someone that person was trying to save.
I'll give the writers credit for deciding that might be the only way to crack the Bat, it just didn't work smoothly on film.
It didn't ruin the movie for me, and I've seen plenty of other films that include some exposition or a sudden bit of info that completely changes the arc of a film. This wasn't the worst, wasn't the best.
Everything else actually was pretty good, and I look forward to the next DC movie.
I suspect that if you WANT to hate it, nothing can change your mind. But if you go in open-minded, there's plenty to like.

Here is the full quote from Geoff Johns, taken from his appearance in "The Empire of Luthor," the Lex Luthor featurette that came with the Ultimate Edition.
"Lex in the film is very maniacal. He’s just kind of starting out. He’s on his way to becoming the iconic Lex Luthor from the comic books. But it’s a very different version."

I could not get passed this.
They ruined Superman in Man of Steel and then they ruined Lex in BvS. They just took a steaming pile of shite akin to Iron Man 3 on the Superman universe.
Affleck as Batman was outstanding though and I cannot wait to watch his solo movies.

The extended version was immensely better. There were still some things missing, IMO. A lot of the same problems were still present for me. I've gone into great detail voicing those things, so I won't do it here.
But, at least now the movie makes sense in the first half. It didn't feel choppy like before. Things were much better explained. Like why people were where they were. Whoever the a-hole was who decided to cut this movie needs to be led out of the building. It was just asinine some of the scenes that were deleted.
At first, I gave this movie a 3/10 out of anger. Since then I changed my score on the theatrical cut to 4/10, which is just below average for me. The Ultimate Cut is easily a 6/10. I'm still angry about handling of Superman. That anger really made me want to give this movie a 5/10, which is average. But I can't deny there are some really amazing action sequences and now that the movie actually makes sense for the most part, it's easily an above average movie. 6/10 is very fair.
