I do wish they would quit showing the flashbacks though. Seems like wasted screen time.
The way I see it, the story has always been about Nucky. It starts w him and will end w him, and thats why they are focusing on him and the flashbacks.

I thought that was a cool touch.

ETA: I fricking love Mueller. His scenes and lines are absolutely hilarious at times.
When they were running away last night after Eli shot the two guys.
“Why must there always be pandemonium?”
I had to rewatch that a few times because I was laughing so much and his "I find it easier to despise people" line and the way Eli was looking at him.

its been a good one so far to me. Plenty of action, Nucky setting up to go legit, Lansky and Lucky setting up their thing, Chicago action with Mueller and Eli...I also really like the Joe Kennedy insertion.
Next week looks to have some heavy hitters back.

I don't know why people are complaining about this season.
I've really enjoyed it.

It's the flashbacks mainly for me. I pretty much quit paying attention when the flashbacks go on... I'm going to watch the episode tonight because my dog was pestering me some last night.

If you can't see that they are trying to show you how Nucky became such a hardass, look out for number one, mean negotiator and savvy businessman, I'm sorry. It's like character development in reverse. For seasons, we have seen who he is, and now were seeing why he is.

Joe the Boss, the assassin, Mueller (Why must there always be pandemonium? ) and Eli stick up, the guy with the Havana card pinned to them...
I mean its not quite Sons of Anarchy with a killing every other scene, but lots of action so far.
I for one love the flashbacks...hoping it gets to where Nucky is made Sheriff before the season is over.

I for one love the flashbacks.

Yeah they need to stop with the flashbacks. It's a waste of time. No one cares what Nucky was like as a kid. Maybe they're building up to something with em but I don't see how it's relevant or necessary.

My problem is I know what they're doing... I just don't care.

The show has always been about Nucky and it's going to be that way until the end. Problem is a lot of the supporting characters are much more intersting.

This. Loved first two episodes

Love this show and things are really heating up. I have no problem with the flashbacks, they develop Nucky's character. I can do without Gilliam. Her story should have ended with her going to prison never to be heard of again.

I actually enjoy finally "seeing" Nucky's origin story. Each character's final position at the end of the series will only take a couple of scenes to illustrate, so they actually have some space to play.
1.) We already see where Capone is headed (they intro'd Ness).
2.) If you know your Mob history, Lucky's story will end soon (as it relates to Nucky, they can't make this a Lucky biopic).
3.) Chalky + The Dr. are the primary wildcards.
4.) Just have to show where Eli, etc end.
They've got plenty of time.

My memory of past seasons is hazy. When Nucky had the waiter point out the picture of Nucky's old girlfriend to Tonino, was it a reminder of something he was involved in in the past? I can't remember who planted the bomb that killed her.
But, judging from things I put together in this episode, let me know if I am off. Meyer and Luciano were talking about Tonino and Lucky made some comment about "tell that to Gyp Rossetti". Was it Gyp's gang that blew up Nucky's club, then somehow Tonino ratted on Gyp?
I knew I saw the guy before, but I just can't remember anything about him. It seemed like he knew he was dead once the pic of the girl was shown.

They've got plenty of time.
We're 25% through and haven't even seen Narcisse or Doyle yet.

Tonino worked for Gyp and was involved with the bombing at Babette's (sp?).

My predictions for how this show will end. I definitely think we'll get a fast forward to the end of 33 with the repeal of prohibition so keep that in mind
Obvious:
Nucky takes Torrio's advice, steps aside and finds happiness
Capone goes down hard
Lucky and Meyer kill maranzano, set up the commission
Less Obvious:
Margaret ends up with nucky.
Eli is clipped
Jimmy's mom commits suicide
Out There:
It is revealed to the audience, but never to Nucky, that he is Jimmy's father.
