I wonder if they'll stick with how history played out from here on out...If they do, it will be kind of anti-climatic, but if they don't it should be an awesome ending.

quick question- what does Torio have against Nucky and why does he want him out?

I don't think he has anything against Nucky, but Lansky and Luciano have him involved, and he figures that if he has to take a side, they're more powerful than Nuck.

didn't the guy Nucky was talking to at the restaurant know the shooting was coming? he looked outside right when they pulled up. that's odd if he did because why would you risk all those flying bullets??

I don't know the history behind it, but I got the impression that he didn't know that it was coming. Remember, during the conversation that Nucky was having with him, they both acknowledged that Luciano would eventually go after Maranzano.

first off, great episode and terrific season so far- god id love to see this go 10 episodes.

I love the flashbacks, even wouldn't mind seeing a prequel with a teenage/20s Nucky

Torino was in retirement but his name has repeatedly been mentioned in some of the biggest meetings after retirement. He was probably a go between guy for a lot of the different factions. I think the show is portraying him as someone putting his thumb on the scales. Whoever he thought had the upper hand he supported. I find it interesting Capone is loyal to Nucky.

Capone is just loyal to Nucky over Lucciano and those guys in New York and probably because it's a somewhat mutually beneficial arrangement without having to worry about Nucky trying to frick him over. For all his faults, Nucky doesn't frick with other people's territory.

He didn't know anything was coming, he was one of the guys they were trying to kill. Now the cards are on the table in New York and history tells us Lucciano and little russian guy will win.

I cracked the frick up at that part

I couldn't get over that either

This line and his earlier line from few episodes ago of “Why must there always be pandemonium?" are golden.

I could watch a spin off of Van Alden.

I wanted to insert that the fellow they got to play the 19-20ish year old (deputy sheriff) Nucky was spot on. It was clear to me that he had spent time trying to hone Buschemi's characteristics.

I cant get over this. To flashback to this point in time in his life is pretty ballsy. And I think they get the point across, but i just cant take it seriously with the people they have casted. It almost feels like im being trolled

who exactly is the man young Nucky is working for? I can recognize the Commodore, but who is the other guy?

Also was the other guy in the meeting with young nucky the bald guy from Sopranos that was in earlier seasons? I suck with names.

this is to show Nucky before he got his teeth fixed and had the cash to start acting like an upper class guy.

Sheriff Lindsey

yes, that character was played by Dominic Chianese, Uncle junior on the Sopranos

Torio has beef with capone because he thinks Capone tried to whack him with the sniper. So Torio retired to NYC, and aligned with Luciano and Lansky to get a seat at the table. Torio knows that Capone is loyal to nucky and vice versa, but he also knows Nucky trusts him. So torio set up Maranzano and Nucky for Luciano and Lansky. None of this happened IRL.

Luciano set up a hit on Maranzano that was successful the first time. Maranzano was killed in his office.

Are we to assume Maranzano was indeed killed in the gunfire? I feel like they would have showed him get shot/killed if so.

The guy definitely had his maneurisms down. I just couldn't stop looking at the oversized teeth.

no I dont think so, but maybe

that would clear the way for Luciano, et al to make a direct run at Nucky in AC by season's end

This was the first episode that made me realize that this show has too much to tie up before the series finale and the preview for next week looks excellent.

One very implausible circumstance in this past episode is the undercover Fed confronting and attempting to persuade the sheriff and Van Alden to get the financial documents. Would not have happened

This is what ticks me off about this show. So much good stuff to cover and they waste screen time w pointless dribble about physco/crack whore storylines, etc

Those fake teeth were laughable, like intentional giganto props or something. The episode was great.

He really did have his mannerisms down cold. Those little details were impressive.

Too much Van Alden/Chalky and not enough Margret Schrooooder/Jillian in this episode.

I think I've said the same thing to my wife after each episode this season..."That was a great episode. There's no way they can tie up these story lines in X episodes"

The scene where he was talking to Mabel's father, it really seemed like he was Nucky/Buscemi.

The acting and casting in this series has been terrific.
