The lesbian scene is nothing to get excited about. It's a little kissing and then camera trickery. The sexiest scene is Portman's solo, and even that has a pretty f'ed twist.
I kind of agree, but it was hot when Kunis wiped her mouth at the end of the scene.

But, Winona Ryder gets hit by a car in it, and that's always a good thing.
Post of the year.

where is this said? and that means having the same ending?
the ending of the movie isn't the same. different buildups, different tensions, different releases.
he loved the comparison between wrestling- low brow art, and ballet- high brow art.

Where is this movie playing in BR?

mall rave and perkins rowe.
and for all the sniping, i couldn't disagree more that this movie was like the wrestler. the wrestler was very sentimental. it was a set it up knock it down type thing for the aging hero, still trying to get it done. Rourke nailed the role.
but this movie is nothing like that. Portman's heroine is nothing like the Wrestler.

loved this movie. really.
the duality of a ballerina struggling with her own compulsions and dreams and descending into a realm of chaos while reaching the peak of her professional career.
Portman nails it. Hershey nails it. Kunis nails it. Aranofsky turns what could have been a cliched ballet script into something totally different. Something so beautiful has never seemed so oppressive. Something so graceful has never seemed so tense.
This movie haunted my dreams last night.
+1 on this review....saw it last night and couldn't stop thinking about it

Saw it last night and thought it was really good.
Hell, it was good enough that a bunch of guys are discussing a movie about ballet on a message board.

i think everyone can empathize with truly wanting something to that extent.
what was real to Nina? any of it? all of it? I'd like to watch it a second time to see if there are any context clues as to what is real and what is Nina's imagination. Portman's face is so expressive, so fragile in this movie. And her transformation into the black swan is amazing, couple with some clever visual effects. Her physicality completely changed in those moments.
even being a novice ballet watcher, you could tell a difference in the aggressiveness with which she was dancing. and the complete shift in persona.
is some of this movie cliched? yes. But this has to be a front runner for movie of the year.
I can't wait to watch true grit tomorrow.

it was a solid flick. wasn't exactly my favorite movie ever, but it was good. natalie portman is well deserving of any awards she wins and is nominated for, for this movie. she was great.
as others have said, you are left trying to figure out what was reality and what were hallucinations at the end.
and yes, a family from Houma helped to produce the movie. they weren't the sole producers, but were major contributing factors. i know them somewhat well. they are now producing a movie with Daniel Radcliff and another movie (Ides of March) with George Clooney.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!
At the end of the movie, when her mom was in the audience, did you notice if her hand was bandaged? I didn't think to look until it was too late.

I saw it last night and thought it was very cool. It did a good job of being mysterious and suspenseful by using a lot of close-up shots and dark angles to confuse and build tension. I too thought Portman did a good job, not sure how old she was supposed to be in her pink room, maybe 19,20 at oldest but damn she was skinny.

chest up shot of hershey. no indicator. the context and framing of the shot would lead one to believe that she was fine though.

early to mid 20s. young enough to be still named a prima, old enough to have become a veteran.

Great movie.
Spoilers ***
So she stabbed herself before the black swan part but where was all the blood? You would have thought that someone would have noticed before she took the swan dive.

It reminded me of Polanski's Repulsion (worth seeking out) and the final act of The Red Shoes. In fact, I think repressed female characters have been going ambiguously nuts since Henry James wrote The Turn of the Screw in 1898.
Black Swan feels like a final take on those themes in the hands of a master. It's just so solid technically, from the beautifully grainy 16mm to the bombastic old fashion score. Portman holds nothing back, much like her character... has their been a performance that has ever demanded such simultaneous physical and mental perfection? It's kind of heroic and I hope she gets the Oscar. I can imagine Aronofsky slipping through for Best Director as well.

thought about this. perhaps the mirror shards were blocking the wound from leakage?
Also, friend of mine says its clear that she dies. I do not think that is necessarily true. She could pass out from blood loss.

Anything with Portman is hot. And agreed.

I think the shard kept the blood in.
