Good country club athletes play golf now because tiger made it cool, more money, and longer career.
Andre Agassi's dad said if he had to do it over he'd have pushed him to play golf.

inevitable.
huge population, plenty of rich people teaching the game to their kids at an early age, fame and fortune to be had by the successful.
sure.
100% likely.

Here's an article from yesterday on ESPN on shared Donaldson as the next big American tennis star.

I think the ITF has a lot to do with it. I think it is biased towards euro's now. Look at all the points to be had on clay, and not a lot of clay in us puts us at a disadvantage to get in tourneys without having to qualify.

He got fricked though. He lost 5 major finals to Fed
On the other hand, he was able to rise up to #1 in the world in the weak post-Sampras, pre-big4 mini era.

Yes.

This is wrong on so many levels.
There is a big wave of 16-18 year old Americans coming up right now who have had great success in the junior ITF's and now are doing well in the futures and some in challengers. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that all these kids, or really any of them, are going to pan out on the pro tour or become a top 5 dominant player, but the USTA has invested a ton of money in the junior development the last 15 years and this up and coming group are the ones who have reaped the benefits and the results, thus far, appear to be promising.
Kovlov (17) and Donaldson (18), two who people are expecting to be the next stars, will be playing in the first round in Memphis' ATP tournament this week. Kozlov has a very different style of play and his lack of size is what gives some people pause when discussing this future success on the tour. Donaldson looks to have it all, except in his head and his on-court attitude. Tiafoe, Mmoh, Baughton, Opelka, Fritz are all names of American 16-18 years who may break through in the very near future.
It is anyone's guess what's in store for these kids as they transition to the pro tour, but the outlook for American men hasn't looked this good since the late 80's/early 90's.
Roscoe is right.
The Orange Bowl is the Wimbledon of junior tennis. Past winners include Federer, Roddick, Courier, Mcenroe, Lendl, Borg.
Tiafoe won it two years ago at age 15. Kozlov won it last year at 16. And I'm referring to the 18 and under draw for both. And then Donaldson is probably even more of a sure thing than either Kozlov or Tiafoe. And on top of that you've got a handful of other guys who are right at the very top of that age bracket.
So yeah, these guys appear to be realer than even the real deal holyfield.

Who is this Sam Riffice kid? He's a big damn kid for a 16 year old.

I think we will eventually get another great. Not sure if he is in the pipeline, but we are a big, rich country, and lots of people don't want their kids playing football.

Plus, it's just an absurd claim for Mike Agassi to make and if he made it it was surely just a throwaway line made in jest.
Mike Agassi was OBSESSED with tennis. Read Agassi's book; it's excellent.

Say what you want about Roddick as a player, but that dude is a certifiable life winner. He surely wasn't putting any pussy up on a pedestal. Not even prime Mandy Moore.*
*And prime Mandy Moore was a fine piece of ace...to be clear.

Rubin and Kozlov played in last year's Wimbledon Junior finals.
Tommy Paul won this year's French Open juniors.
Taylor Fritz and Opelka (the next John Isner) are playing the the semi-finals of this year's Wimbledon, so another potential American junior slam champion.
Again, while success on the junior ITF's isn't necessarily a great indicator of success on the pro tour, what is promising for the up and coming group of young American's is the success that a large number of different young American's are having.
