Their other sports programs aren't up to par and they don't bring any desirable TV markets

I get so tired of this "academic" bullshite. "Oh, they're not an AAU school" or "They're a Tier II and not Tier I". This is athletics. If the Big XII thought Boise would bring $$$$$ to the table I'm sure they'd say screw academics.

If academics and research werent paramount, much of the P5 would no longer be P5. The big 12 is somewhat of an exception though

The P5 is the P5 because of athletics. I promise if a conference thinks a school can bring in $$$$$$ they'll overlook academics. Athletics is all $$$$$$$. That's why an athlete can have a 22 ACT score and get in Tulane, but my son with a 4.09 GPA and a 26 ACT has to go through a rigorous application process and still probably won't get in. It's all about $$$$$$$$.

Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, and Kansas State are the shite academic schools in the Big 12. Oklahoma is on a higher tier than all of these and Boise State is even shittier

If P5 were P5 solely because of football (P5 is a football designation), there would be a major shakeup, and 1/3 (at least) of the schools in P5 leagues wouldn't be there. They were all grandfathered in.
But for the most part, the strongest universities that want to play major college football are in the P5. There are exceptions, and they are in the AAC plus a few from C-USA and MWC. And there are a few P5 universities, primarily in the Big 12, that aren't particularly strong.

I think Boise is trying to improve their academics and research.

I'm not denying that. Actually, that's what they started as back in the late 60's. My argument is the Big XII would never look at them, not because of academics, but because they bring zero in terms of $$$$$. I'll guarantee you if they brought $$$$ as in terms of market or overall athletics their JUCO academics would matter zero.

No, those teams are kept there because you need some historically weak teams to beat. Some of those historically weaker football teams have dominant basketball teams, Kansas, Duke, Wake, etc., and dominant other sports such as baseball, in the south especially. That's the reasons they are kept. There is a good mix of high academic schools and not high academic schools in the P5. Most state ran universities, especially in the South, are what they are. Very average academic institutions that make mega money off of athletics. Period.

but academics are what will keep them out, most schools that higher up in academia don't want to be associated with schools that much lower than them

Ok, if academics are such a big deal, then why are athletes admitted to P5 schools when they can't read? Dexter Manley graduated from Okie Lite and when he got to the Redskins they found out he couldn't read. Jerrell Powe went to Ole Miss, but was in Special Ed at Wayne County because he couldn't read. No way in hell do those guys get into college if they aren't football players. Academics my arse. Major college athletics is all about $$$$$$$$$. It was even like this in the 50's and 60's. That's why Tulane left the SEC. They didn't want to demphasize academics. Most of the academia people at universities hate athletics. If a school can bring in athletic $$$$$$$ other schools will associate regardless of academics. And Boise will never get into the Big XII because they bring zilch to the athletic table.

The top 3 reasons not to take Boise are:

Geographics - There are more isolated from the rest of the Big 12 than West Virginia is.

Money - Though they have gotten a huge following from BCS success, they still don't have the fan base to bring big money to the table. Idaho doesn't have any major t.v. markets and isn't that appealing to Fox or ESPN.

Academics - They are terrible.

Boise State would bring in more money than Houston, a team always floated around for Big 12 expansion by morons.

Well at this point they just need to bring in Cincy and Memphis imo. Them not jumping on Louisville and Cincy from the beginning was stupid.

I'm all for Texas going to the Pac 12 or independent, but as for the Big XII, Boise State just isn't a good fit. I'd much ather the conference pursue Louisville, Cincinnati, or BYU.

I agree. I hate the thought of adding any more Texas schools. The Big XII may as well rebrand to the old Southwest Conference if we look to adding Houston or SMU.
