So they weren't trying to score touchdowns?

I wouldn't waste anytime calling out the defense for that game...

I kind of agree, but the only chance LSU had of winning that game was for another 9-6 type score and their defense couldn't hold them to 9 again. It isn't like LSU did much on Offense the first time they played. The D knew they were going to have to play perfect to win, and they didn't. Bama did.

It is extremely absurd

It really isn't. Unless you have a very simple mind and just look at stats and big plays. There are other aspects that mean more to winning a football game. Like shutting down the running game such as Brockers did. Eliminating one side of the field for QB's like Mo did. They didn't put up astounding stats or do anything flashy, but just did their jobs exceptionally well. Those things have to happen first, before TM7 can make his impact causing turnovers and making big plays. If we're being gashed up the middle or picked apart by a QB, doesn't matter as much if TM7 strips a ball once a game, gets a sack or 2, etc.

Bama called a better game.

They opened up their attack and aired it out. On first down they would throw the ball and they remained balanced.

LSU just ran into the defense and threw screen passes for 3 QTRs watching the game get out of hand.

The first game was a pound the rock fest. Saban adjusted his gameplan...Les didn't.

Les allowed it become what it was.

The score was 9-0 at half...no adjustment

15-0(2 score game heading into the 4th)

again not the defense in any way shape or form.

The defense did all they could. Bama had a dominant o-line, great RB, solid QB. Pretty good offense, and gameplan to go with it. Our offense couldn't put together a drive to help our D stay fresh or get good field position.

You can blame the offense, QB, coaching, but the defense can't be blamed

I agree, but it can't be denied that TM7 gave up some big first downs in that game.

The bigger picture is that this is just an absurd question. There are hundreds of players that were better than TM7.

So they weren't trying to score touchdowns?

Bama was content to play it super safe on O and kick FGs. that's how much they dominated LSU that night

they knew our offense wasn't scoring and our team was sparked by turnovers/big STs plays. they took that away by playing safe

3-0 was a safe lead that night

domination

5 the number of first downs LSU got in the game.

1.4 the number of yards per carry LSU averaged

53 the total of passing yards in the game for JJ on 17 attempts...29 yards if you factor in sacks negating his positive throws

1 number of times LSU crossed the 50 yard line(4th qtr)

If he plays one more year like he did the first two and puts down the weed and IF LSU wins those 2 games in 2012, he enters the conversation. Too many "ifs" though.

Best LSU player I ever saw, though.

This post is honestly just as dumb as the OP.

You just don't see players dominate like Tyrian did. I never seen ball hawking and playmaking like that before. I would certainly throw him on a All Time Defense. The last dominate player on his level was Suh.

The reason for that is because LSU was so talented that he could roam and LSU could do what they wanted with him. He was awesome in that role. Put him on a team where he had to try and lock down one side of the field and he would be exposed or just another above average player.

Suh was on another level. He was double teamed and the focal point of the defense with holes in other places and still dominated.

Desmond Howard and maybe Charles Woodson locking down the outsides.

WHAT!!!!

Howard was not a DB.

The best player I have seen was Tim Brown and then possibly Champ Bailey. I think the Rocket was more of a game breaker than the Honey Badger.

Just going off College performances and not how they are in pros my list is as follows

QB Tebow
RB Sanders or Billy Sims
WR Anthony Carter
Utility Tim Brown
CB Sanders or Lott
S Berry

As far as Punt Returns the GOAT was Joe Adams vs Tennessee

But the biggest was the phantom clip vs CU in Orange Bowl that cost Notre Dame a National Championship. Everyone in the stadium knew if Rocket got the ball he was returning it for a TD.

The hell are you talking about? That Nebraska defense was legit and put 5 or 6 guys in the pros. People who try to diminish what Matheiu did just make me laugh, dude was unreal and one of a kind.

Not saying he wasn't good, cause he obviously was. Just think he was overrated and no where near the GOAT. That is more laughable.

I thought David was a year or two behind Suh.

Was Amakumurah on that Defense? I thought he was same class as David.
