Why Doesn't UCONN's Mens Basketball Program Get the Love?

Of course, I'm being a bit facetious in my title. I know UCONN's mens basketball program is highly respected but it doesn't seem they're as respected as a program that has won 3 championships in the last 20 years and produced some very good NBA players.

Am I totally off because I'm not from the East coast?

I think UConn is generally considered a top 6-10 program nationally.

Agreed. They had a little bit of a rough patch, and I think the coaching change left some questions.

But, they're better than that. Looking at the players that have come through there and the championships. They're better than 6-10 nationally.

ESPN is in Bristol. UCONN ball has been getting love from them since ESPN was created. In fact all ESPN used to show is UCONN ball. They helped build that program.

Duke
UNC
KU
UK
UCLA
Indiana

are the blue bloods. UConn, Cuse, MSU, Louisville and Georgetown are right after them in terms of prestige

Part of it is because Jim Calhoun was the dirtiest coach in the NCAA.

Not a UCONN fan but going by objective criteria it would be hard to argue that there are 6-10 college programs that have been better in the last cpl decades.

Not even close to true, but carry on.

Aside from KU, UK, and Duke, I look at what programs are doing in modern times. And, UCONN is in the same league as the three I've mentioned easily.

UCONNs years between championships haven't been as great as someone like Duke... I can't remember a year they made the FF outside of one of their three championship teams.

Its not like UCLA has been an after thought program. Hell we are just what? 5 years removed from our third consecutive final four?

Just look at the last couple years... Champs in 2011 then two years of no tourney (granted the NCAA had their say).

If they win another, they're the 7th best program historically besides the Big 6 (UCLA, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana, Duke).

Not sure if it matters at all, but the 2011 uconn team is by far the worst national champion I've seen in my 20 years of watching college basketball. The final four that year was absolutely brutal.

2011 UConn would have beaten 2010 Duke for sure

2010 Duke was one of the worst national champions in a long time. Not by resume, but just by what other national champions in recent years could beat them.

Since 1987 when Calhoun took over I would argue they are the #3 program after UNC and Duke
