Why do so many people watch college softball?

Watching the WCWS intermittently to see exactly why 1.2 million+ tune into each game and it's just awful. It wants so badly to associate itself with baseball but augments the game for women's abilities so as to make it laughable. The fact that it's basically impossible to turn two on a routine grounder because it takes 3 seconds to get to 1st is a microcosm of the game's absurdity. The ballparks are built for 3rd graders. Everyone swings like they are wielding a katana, just awful form.
Women's basketball sucks but at least they have the dignity to actually play basketball.

I would say the pace is faster compared to baseball. Plus it's only 7 innings which makes every pitch more important

I just watched fit and healthy women having a good time playing a sport they love and this game was entertaining as shite and it ended in a walk off grand slam. It's been fun to watch.

Its all relative. Fantastic compared to what, other softball games? It's like 200 feet to dead center and teams pitch their ace every other day. It's a joke.

The only reason I could sort of watch it is because the schools we love and hate from football and basketball play it, so I have a rooting interest even when I know nothing about the teams. I wouldn't watch three pitches of a pro softball game.

I'm genuinely curious. The WNBA is garbage and because of that nobody watches. Women are actually good at tennis and grand slam ratings are good. Women are good at soccer and the Womrns WC gets good ratings. Those make sense. The fact that the WCWS gets higher ratings than the CWS and most postseason hockey games makes no sense.
