If i could have a WR for this year, I would def take Calvin Johnson. Easily. Calvin is better than Julio right now. Never said he wasnt. My argument wasnt for this year.

If you were an NFL GM and had to pick a WR for the next 5+ years or so, who would you take?? Injury free too. Out of all WRs in the league.

Id go 1a. Julio. 1b. AJ. 2. Dez?

I would still pick Calvin Johnson.

After that... probably Jimmy Graham/Gronk.

HA ok. Stafford is a perfect QB for Calvin. Huge arm and loves throwing it deep.

Can you imagine Calvin playing on an actual good team that is a contender??

Thats a reason why I think Calvin breaking Jerry Rice record last year was pointless/ kind of a fluke. They won 4 games all last year IIRC. I mean its awesome and shows what type of talent he is, but it was an individual record on team that was irrelevant. I mean AP ran for 2,000+ yards and brought the Vikings to the playoffs, and they are way worse than the Lons. Make the numbers count for something more than just numbers. Jerry Rice set the record and went to the NFC championship game doing it too. Winning is the most important thing.

Just making sure. You were using "Julio" and "best" a lot in the same sentence.

If he stays healthy like Reggie Wayne, Calvin Johnson and it's not even close. He just turned 28.

If we're talking about the young talent, I think Julio has what it takes to be the 2nd receiver. However, I'm not thrilled about his season ending foot injury.

So, assuming health, I want Julio, AJ, DT88, Marshall, Dez.

Yea AJ is better now. Read everything I said. AJ Green came in more polished than Julio and transitioned easier because he was more polished. That said, Julios athletic ability and rare talent to go along with his size and speed and freakish burst is above AJ Greens. Players cant really improve their natural god given ability. They have natural limitations. They can improve on things like route running, consistency, etc. Julio is 1 of the biggest freaks in the NFL when it comes to his natural ability. He is 1 of the few players in the NFL with very few natural limitations. And this year he was vastly improved in his ball skills, route running, consistency, etc.

AJ was more polished but he was also more instinctive, and always has been. From the first time he stepped on a field in an UGA uniform he looked NFL-ready. That's not merely polish. It's innate and intangible. Those skills improve, too.

Look at Jerry Rice, Charles Woodson, Ed Reed, etc. Even as physical skills diminished their advanced 'feel' for the game continued to evolve and kept them ahead of their peers' development. Some people are just born football players. AJ Green is one of them. Not taking anything away from Julio. On the other hand, AJ seems somewhat disengaged at times. But he's the definition of a 'natural' receiver.

And what happened to Reggie Wayne this year?? And I love Reggie. But when you get older, yea your burst slows down but you also become way more injury prone. A nagging hammy injury/ankle sprain can plague a 30+ year old player the entire season. Look at Roddy White this year. And he just hit 30.

And no im not thrilled about his foot injury either. Which is why I said assuming healthy.

And yea tods, I agree. AJ Green in the def. of a natural WR. Its not like Im saying he isnt great. Because he is. Top 3 WR right now no doubt. Hes awesome. There are things AJ does better than Julio, and there are things Julio does better than AJ. But, what AJ does better than Julio, Julio can learn how to improve in those areas. But, where Julio is ahead of AJ is all in the god given ability areas. AJ Green is a natural WR with great talent. Hes awesome. Julio is a natural freak with great WR talent. And he was more improved this year at his routes, ball skills, consistency, etc.

Right now, I would take AJ ahead of Julio too. But, in the next 3-5 years I see Julio being better than AJ. Both are really awesome and cant go wrong with either.

Are we blaming that season on Calvin Johnson?

Reggie is about to turn 35.

You would take Julio over a healthy Calvin Johnson for 3-5 years?

If i could be guaranteed that Calvin would be healthy and not showing signs of slowing down in the next 3-5 years?? yea. I would take him. But there is no guarantee for that. The odds of any player slowing down, not just Calvin, by the time they get 32+ years old are pretty good. Not saying they still wont be good or effective, but they do lose a burst.

And no im not blaming the season on Calvin. Just saying when your down by 20 in every game you chunk the shite out the ball. If the Lions would of won 10 games and made the playoffs last year do you think he still would of broken the record?

Don't know. If Roddy and Steven Jackson weren't injured, would Julio had gotten off to an amazing start this year. No way to answer those questions.

Can we drop the facade that Jimmy is a TE? He hardly ever blocks, and even when he does it's about as great as you'd expect a WR to.

Ha yea I agree with that. No way of knowing.

And no we cant. If we accept the fact that hes a WR and not a TE, then the Saints will be forced to pay him like a WR next year. And we cant have that

No...because the Lions offense is much better when he is not targeted that often. They struggled in the passing game yesterday and Megatron was targeted something like 17 times.

Or, I'm a Lions fan and have watched every iteration of their offense since Megatron was drafted.
