I remember using Kelly Roy on MVP 05 to get all the legendary players

Throughout the 90s (pre Bonds steroids) over roughly the same amount of PAs:
Bonds: .302/.434/.602, 343 SBs, 172 wRC+, 81.3 WAR
Griffey: .302/.384/.581, 151 SBs, 147 wRC+, 66 WAR
Bonds: .302/.434/.602, 343 SBs, 172 wRC+, 81.3 WAR
Griffey: .302/.384/.581, 151 SBs, 147 wRC+, 66 WAR

This is complete nonsense.
quote:I can't believe anyone would even type this. Barry Bonds won three MVPs in four years (and finished second the other year) from ages 25 to 28. He led the league in OPS 5 out of 6 years (and finished 3rd the other year). And he averaged 37 stolen bases a year over those 6 years. And won 5 gold gloves.
Griffey was Mr. Video game, Bonds was toiling in some obscurity and he said as much and what spurred him to take PEDs.
Griffey won 1 MVP in his career and never once led his league in OPS. The only thing Griffey has on pre-PED Bonds is positional value and a few more HRs, but the latter is completely drowned out by Bonds' massive advantage in OBP and stolen bases. Bonds led his league in IBBs 7 straight years. Bonds posted an 8 or better WAR 7 times (plus a 7.9 and a 7.5). Griffey three times. And on and on and on.
I loved Griffey, but Bonds was easily the better player. Barry Bonds, with or without steroids, is the best baseball player since Willie Mays, at least.
Educate yourself:
Barry Bonds
Ken Griffey, Jr.

Griffey vs. Bonds was the Kobe vs. Lebron of the '90s. Griffey was the more popular and entertaining player similar to how NBA fans view Kobe but Bonds was always the better player by a significant margin. Griffey was considered a superior slugger and better hitter for average yet their batting averages were identical during the '90s (.302) and Bonds ISO and slugging percentages were both higher than Griffey's. Bonds stole over twice as many bases as Griffey during the '90s. He walked 443 more times than Griffey while striking out 158 fewer times. Bonds had a 179 OPS+ during the '90s. Griffey's highest single season OPS+ was 171. Griffey's best offensive season wasn't nearly as good as an average year for Bonds. Griffey was the better defensive player but not nearly enough to override the huge advantage that Bonds had over him at the plate and on the basepaths.

Well Bonds did say he was pissed Griffey, Big Mac and Sosa were getting all the public love.
Bonds may have gotten baseball sportswriter love and votes for awards but he wasn't as big as Griffy in the 90s...public-wise.
Don't shoot the messenger, go talk to Bonds and sportswriters for his reason for doping.

Bonds was jealous of the attention McGwire and Sosa got. He viewed McGwire as a lesser player (he was; a one trick pony) and Sosa as a fraud. They became the talk of the sports world and he grew tired of it. Bonds became the first player in history with 400 HR and 400 stolen bases that year (1998) and nobody even noticed.
Bonds had great respect for Griffey. They were actually pretty good friends and had known each other since they were kids through their fathers. Supposedly, Bonds confided in Griffey after the 1998 season that he was going to start using PEDs.
Griffey was obviously more popular with fans. He was a good looking kid with a great smile. Shared his father's famous name and became an instant celebrity when they became teammates. I don't think Bonds ever gave a rip what fans thought of him personally. And, obviously, popularity doesn't equal performance.
OBTW, Bobby was better than Ken Sr. too.

Korea, too. He lost nearly two full seasons to that war. Can you believe he was called into service at age 33 for the end of that?
After missing virtually all of 1952 and the first 100+ games of 1953, and then practicing and pinch hitting for about two weeks, after flying air combat missions for a year and a half, he homered and doubled in his first start and hit over .400 the rest of the way.
Basically, Ted Williams, minus about 40 points of batting average, was Barry Bonds, but with no defensive or baserunning value.
War probably kept Ted Williams from being the all time leader in WAR.

Bonds. One of the best stats I ever heard. Back in 2003, I believe , Barry Bonds had more home runs, in the month of April, than swinging strikes. Let that sink in.

It came out in the court that Bonds started using when McGwire & Griffey were selected over him on Baseball All Century Team.

He was already using by then. It is all outlined in Game of Shadows.
