Injuries really hurt Griffey's career totals.

Yes, he played in 22 season, but injuries really hurt him in about 4 or 5 seasons before his skills had diminished.

He may very well have eclipsed 700 homers had he not missed major parts of 5 seasons.

Who else used to use the cheat code "Keegan Patterson" on EA Sports MVP Baseball 2004 to get the guy who hit bombs on every AB? Even if you bunted it would go out.

he absolutely would have. Griffey finished his career with 630 home runs. He fell victim to a strike shortened 1994 season where he had 40 home runs in 111 games. He missed 90 games in 1995 with a broken wrist. He missed about 20 games in 1996 with a broken hand. He played in only 206 games out of a possible 486 from 2002-2004. He then missed another 53 games in 2006. I mean you're talking about 576 games from 1994-2006. Most of those were during prime. That's over 3 1/2 seasons worth of games, right in his prime. Even at 37 years old in 2007, he was able to hit 30 home runs in 144 games with Cincinnati. When he was missing these huge chunks of seasons, he was still hitting a clip of 40+ Home runs a year. He likely would have broken Hank Aaron's record had he remained healthy. But I guess that is part of breaking records like that.

From a pure statistical standpoint it's Bonds by a not even close margin. His 2000-2004 statistics were other worldly

Bonds from 2001-2004 was numbers too unrealistic for a video game.

Yeah, Bonds in his PED-prime is the best hitter in the history of baseball.

yep, completely natural for someone to peak at age 36

Point is, nobody else in the world could do that, no matter what combination of PEDs you give them.

Griffey went for 56 twice without PEDs. Bonds career high without was 46. Bonds was an all time great without PEDs but no way he remotely approaches those numbers playing clean. If he couldn't hit 50 in his prime without PEDs, lol at him doing anything remotely similar at 36-39

Yeah, but he was OBPing .450+ and OPSing 1.000+ without PEDs. And stealing bases. And winning gold gloves. He was an incredible player. The best in baseball. But he couldn't handle playing second fiddle to the McGwire/Sosa freak show. It's a tragic story, really. Bonds on PEDs was barely human.

Griffey was the Natural...

The best there ever was.

Too bad injuries for him and medical freaks overtook him in status.

Steroid Bonds is the best player ever. He was Babe Ruth in the modern game.

Bonds had more intentional walks in one season - 120 - than A-Rod has in his entire career. That's how feared a hitter Bonds was.

Is no one drawing a line in this thread?

Is this just who is the best Lance Armstrong thread?

So much admiration for East Germans in this thread. He was the best, blah, blah, blah..

So we're the Germans.

Germans

Before Janet Evans.

I don't know if Griffy never did drugs but as a kid, as both were kids before Bonds got all puffy...

Griffey was way better than Bonds at their youngest most natural self.

Griffey was Mr. Video game, Bonds was toiling in some obscurity and he said as much and what spurred him to take PEDs.

More popular and likable doesn't equal better. Bonds was always better statistically.
