pretty much any form of running.

This. Dear God, this. Validity be damned, I hated running in baseball. The majority of our running was punishment based, so that made it worse. We used to run from home to each position on the infield and back, then the foul pole and back, center field wall and back, and the foul pole and back. The entire team ran together, so I would try to get caught up in the wash of guys coming back from the foul pole or something and act like I was on my return trip as well. Anything to save 30 yards or so.

Unless you're a long-distance runner or another track discipline, I'd imagine sprints or other running is the consensus answer. Regardless of the sport, when it came time to run, no one ever got excited.

ETA: Except that brownnoser who would hoot and holler and act like he was all pumped up and we were all sacks of shite that were mailing it in the entire time. Hated that guy.

they wern't a work out for us, they were punishment, and we had asshats, who would make us bear crawl half the practice. They refused to keep their helmets on.

Wind Sprints in full football gear, was a bear. Our coach would see 1 lolly gagger and we would have to do 4 more, then another 4. Guys up chucking.

We wouldn't do anything from the end of football season to about the middle of January, then we'd start out running half miles. It was cold, your chest would burn like it was on fire. There wasn't a lot of thought put into our off season conditioning program

Box jumps, with running a close second.

I'm a slow, short white kid with no athleticism.

came to post this.

i was a mile relay guy and our coach like to pick Tuesdays (chic fil a day) to kill us on quarter workouts.

first 4 had to be run under 65
next 4 under 70
next 4 under 75
last one under 65.
every one we didn't get got added to the end.

one time i remember i ran 19 of them.

Indian Run... Start at one top of the bleachers, run down across the field to the other top and back =1 . 10 of those non stop, followed by 10, 25-50 gassers, topped off with 1.5 mile run which skill players had to finish under 10 minutes after already being drained. If you didn't complete it, you were bumped down on depth chart and had to repeat it next week. This post was edited on 8/2 at 10:18 am

I mean this sounded tough THEN you added 1.5 miles in 10 minutes, jesus

We hated circuits too, 6-7 stations, 5 minutes each in groups of 10, no breaks in between, no water. Everything from flipping tires, to plyometrics, to sit-ups with medicine balls, etc.

We had this drill in basketball, I think coach called it the golden drill. It consisted of 12 different stations and each station you had to do for 45-60 seconds then move onto the next one. Some of the stations were suicides, wall sits, Mikan drill, sprints, free throws, push-ups, backboard touches and more. This was always the last thing we did on a Friday practice, right before everyone went home. He said he wanted to make us so tired that we wouldn't party over the weekend.

We did something similar during the offseason for baseball. We would do circuits during 7th period baseball on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. The amount of stations depended on the about of players we had in our class, so if we had 21 players we had had 21 stations with one being a rest station. Each station was a minute long and if coach saw someone not trying hard he would blow the whistle at the end of the minute and we would go back one station before we could move on. Also on Monday's we would run one mile for timed after the circuits, two miles on Wednesday for time, and 3 miles for time on Friday. It was brutal, I remember feeling sick to my stomach during 5th and 6th period knowing that I had a workout from hell coming my way.

I'm in touch.

Every once in a while, we'd do a long-distance run in PE class. The teacher would drive out to some country road in the middle of nowhere and we'd have to run out to where he was and then turn around and come back. He sat there on the hood of his car and checked us off in his roll book to make sure everybody did it. shite we were cutting through the woods, across cow pastures and corn fields, anything to cut some distance off that run.
