6–won it in ‘93, too. That was 4A, though, when it was still the highest classification. I’d put Evangel 1st, then WM. Curtis is disqualified because they never played all the way up. Say what you will about Evangel, they ALWAYS played up to the highest classification allowed (I think there was a rule that you could only jump up 2 classes at a time, which is why they have a 3A title or 2 before they were allowed to play 5A).
But frick Curtis. Beat up on a bunch of inferior schools. Because…softball. Get the frick out.

If you youtube their highlights from then, it's bizzare. They ran the shotgun from 10 yards behind LOS. Crazy seeing it that far back.
The first video I saw was tbem losing to a team from Arkansas 35-7 in 2005.
And they weren’t 10yds back.

Undoubtedly Evangel. Had the #1 QB in the state/country for more than a decade straight. Not to mention setting the record for D-1 signings. A school with 1A/2A enrollment dominating 5A. WM couldn't even beat them in the dome. Meanwhile, Curtis hid in 4A to pad their stats and avoid Evangel and WM. The one time they made the mistake of actually playing Evangel, Evangel was up 28-0 before putting in the 8th graders like JD Booty and Jacob Hester. And the year they played De La Salle in the first nationally televised HS football game, they were without a QB because JD Booty had left, being the 1st HS player to leave a year early to play college ball. And he damn near beat out Matt Leinart! He did win the backup role ahead of Matt Cassel. And Bob Stoops himself said that if Brent Rawls could have kept his head on straight, you'd have never heard of Jason White. So yeah, between 93-02 abouts, you'll never see anything like it again!

I kind of wish he would consider applying for the new Prairieville HS coaching job. He's still reasonably young (60) and his dad was employed by the AP School system for years.

All of WM’s titles are in 5A. 5A started in 1991.

That would be De La Salle in Concorde, California. Btw, they wiped the field with Evangel back in Evangel's heyday...look it up.
Kind of a big deal that JD Booty skipped his senior year to go to USC. Completely changed that game having a first time starter instead of one of the best QBs in the nation.

They were indeed dominant. Should it be factored in that they were giving away GEDs though?

I meant to say that “may have been 4A” in case that’s what he was looking at and that’s why he overlooked it. My cousins went to Neville, so I was in the Dome every year from ‘91 to probably ‘02 and couldn’t remember when it changed.
Funny about that ‘93 title. Student section had t-shirts made that said “Back to back to back.” Of just making the playoffs. ‘93 was the 1st year we’d ever won a single playoff game (thanks Bobby’Breen). Just 5 years later they were actually 3-peating.

Hard to leave out Acadiana HS in the last 15 years. 5 or 6 state titles running the veer at a 5A public school in the largest & toughest district in the state.

They’ve been super impressive, no doubt. As someone who just casually observes these days, though, I think the split probably hurts them in these type of conversations, fair or not.

Ok since you know it all give us a list of current d1 factory athletes from John Curtis in 10 years. 10 years to make it easier for you. You don't know squat.

Yeah they did… we beat them for our homecoming though(Carroll)… my cousin was the running back for WM that year also

in the last 10 years, Curtis has had kids sign with:
LSU 4x
Oregon
Tennesee
Stanford
Florida State
UCLA
Texas A&M
TCU
Louisville
Texas Tech
UCF
Tulane
SMU
Army
Central Michigan
lol. Rivaled by very few in the state of Louisiana. And one of the top 2-3 pipelines directly to LSU in the state.

A lot of those kids probably wouldn’t have signed if they were at their “home” schools

You don’t know what D-1 athletes look like being a chalmette fan

So when they were in 1A from 93 to 94 (maybe 95) they had no choice but to stay in 1A? And when they were in 3A from 96-98 again they were limited to 3A? Was there a rule in the 90s that stopped teams from playing up?
I always understood they could play up to whatever level they wanted until 2005 when they implemented a rule aimed at Evangel and Curtis to push them back down.
I could be wrong though.
