This is the way I play golf. But I'm the only person in Shreveport who plays this way.

I define the perfect sport as one where the objective is simple and intuitive, and the nature of the game is so logical that the sport doesn't require a ton of seemingly arbitrary rules to keep the game moving along. In otherwords, after a five minute explanation of the sport, would you have to keep saying "you cant do that"?

As a current rugby player and 14 year veteran, I can say I haven't had any two refs have the same interpretation of what's right and wrong in the scrum or at the breakdown.

I agree. I can't think of a sport that is as straightforward as tennis. Stand behind the line, hit the ball into the cross court box, and keep going until it goes beyond the boundary lines, into the net, or bounces twice.
I like this reasoning. If i could go back, I might put tennis as high as 2nd.

Golf.
The simplicity, yet utter difficulty in getting a 1.6 inch diameter ball into a slightly larger hole hundreds of yards away, using only fashioned metal clubs.

Basketball to me shows more true athleticism than any other sport.
Please.
Soccer requires the best athletes. Those guys/gals are amazing. Most basketball players wouldn't last 10 mins on a soccer field.
Every sport has amazing athletes, but I'd be willing to bet a lot more soccer players could cross over to other sports than other sports to soccer.

I love golf, it's my favorite sport, but it would be more "perfect" if the rules were loosened a bit since most of them wouldn't change the outcome very often.
I'd say that golf has to be pretty far up there, as far as perfection is concerned.
Name another sport where people of various skill levels can compete on the same field? One where a 20 handicapper can get as much enjoyment out of it as a 2 handicapper?
On any given day, even an amateur could compete with the greatest professional golfers. Not to say they could do it consistently, but you get my point.

Tennis is the answer. With the addition of the cameras and review system, there is no way you could ever say someone got screwed by an official. The sport is as black and white as it gets and highly entertaining.

No.
Soccer players need little to no upper body strength for their sport compared the major athletes in other sports. Would love to see them block on a run, or attempt to tackle a running back, or even spend an entire game keeping their arms up and shooting a basketball.
They would never have to be substituted out though, which is sorta a plus.

Physicality is lacking in soccer.

I assumed we are talking about pro sports?
As for my original statement, I love playing tennis. Hate watching it with a passion. I still go with my opinion that the perfect sport should have no judgement calls.
One of the reasons why I hate watching college football so much these days. Pro football is becoming just as worse. My team doesn't even have to be playing and I get infuriated over bad calls or only one team getting calls. How fricking hard is it to call a fair game where the best team wins?

The answer is baseball. It is the only perfect sport.
If you wanted to go with simplicity, then track & field, swimming, cycling, weight lifting, etc all make sense. Who is the fastest? Who is the strongest? Who can jump the highest? Those sports and events measure the core of athleticism.
