quote:And Welker isn't the only one with drops, others have had drops. You focus on 1 player instead of others when yes he had drops and they came in late in the game but others had drops during the games as well you choose to not focus on.
Just telling youve what ive seen with my own eyes in the past couple playoff games

Thats because this discussion wasnt about those players and whether or not they get a 9 plus million dollar franchise tag

And Welker deserves the money, he has performed even if you want to focus on 1 or 2 drops over the course of an entire season.

Im not saying he doesnt deserve to get paid because of those plays. My point is i think there are way better options on the table than franchising Welker at 9 million and probably losing out on another key free agent. And the Patriots arent one that will pay you for what you have done, moreso they will pay you for what they think you can do for them in the future
I hope we resign welker, i really do, just not at that cost and not with as many holes as the Pats have to fill

As a Pats fan, I like Wes, but he has had a problem with crucial drops (a la on 3rd down or in the opposition's territory) the past few seasons. Had multiple drops in the postseason, and the worst one came in the AFCCG when the Pats had a 3rd and 8 (up 13-7 in the 3rd quarter) inside the Baltimore 40, Brady threw him a dart and he flat out dropped it. It was one of the biggest ''taking the wind out of your sails'' type moments of that game.
Would I like to see Wes back? Sure. But I definitely don't want to see the Pats pay him what he wants. He's simply not worth what he demands. He's basically a luxury at this point. The Pats offense doesn't need him to have success. Too bad masses of Pats fans that are too emotionally attached to Welker repeatedly saying ''PAY WES!!111'' can't realize that.

Harvin who has shown to be a prima donna and can't stay healthy?
Amendola who can't stay healthy?
Wallace who is a completely different receiver than Welker and thus would be in a different role and command a salary similar to Welker
Jennings/Bowe each who will command more than Welker and both of which had a case of drops during career
Hartline who is coming off 1 good season
Lloyd may be gone and thus NE would then be replacing both starting WR

quote:Again focusing on 1 or 2 drops a game, have they come in what you perceive big moments, maybe. However, he isn't the only one dropping passes I've watched Pats postseason games and I've seen others drop passes so it isn't just Welker dropping them.

quote:You have no idea if they "need" him or not. He is a security blanket for Brady and a reliable option for him. Gronk and Hernandez are a nice luxury to have but one or other seems to always be injured and no one in NE has stepped up to show they can replicate what Welker has done.
The Pats offense doesn't need him to have success

Meh. Would rather promote Edleman

Exactly my point. I want a downfield threat for that price tag. Ill admit Wallace had a case of the drops this season as well but it adds a dynamic that Pats havent had since 08. Ill take that cost

Lukewarm on both
And originally when i said Key free agents, i was talking about Aquib, Vollmer, and playmakers on Defense, not other WRs,

Is that even what they want to run now? You had a great downfield guy in Lloyd but Brady seemed much more comfortable dinking and dunking.

The system NE runs is based on the players the Pats have. Id trust Josh McDaniels to be able to use his immense talent.

Stats wont show it but hes show a ton of potential. Would have ha a big season this year but kept getting hurt. Also an awesome punt returner so losing him would pu us out at two positions

Moss is the only deep threat guy Bradys ever really had to throw to, and he broke a shitton of records with him. Excuse me for getting excited at the possibility of another elite deep threat.

At this point in his career, Lloyd is more of a possesion WR/middle of the field type guy.

quote:and Moss was a special player when he cared... could have gone down as greatest of our generation had he given 100% the entire time but he didn't and that is why he ended up on several teams. You are't getting the same type of talent with Wallace as you had with Moss.

You really want to compare a 30 year old Brandon Lloyd and Percy Harvin? Really?

Im not expecting Moss obviously, but having a guy to back the safeties up would be great. Hes one of the fastest players in the game, i think hed do just fine with Brady.

Exactly. Daunte fricking Culpepper and an 80 year old Randall Cunningham looked like Johnny Unitas when throwing to Moss. Moss is special when he gives a shite. Well, he was anyway.
