Makes sense. Wes Welker is past his prime.

Is he? His last two years have been the best of his career.

Right. He doesn't deserve top WR money, but close to it maybe.

Ehy the hell would they tag him at 11 mil?

122 catches 1569 yards
118 catches 1354 yards

That's his last two years. That's with them trying to phase him out at the start of last season. 11 mil is a bargain for one more year of similar numbers.

But he drops balls in big games. The Patriots would have won their 4th Super Bowl if not for Wes Welker dropping the ball on 3rd Down for a sure 1st Down.

Has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not he is still in his prime

Why would they trade a still productive Randy Moss in 09? Or Branch in 06? They probably never recovered from those guys leaving town

11 million is an insane amount of money for one WR, when you need to sign a Corner that changed the face of your defense, and a franchise Right Tackle as well as revamp the rest of your Recieving corp

Edleman was explosive this year and much more versitile this season when he was on the field than Welker. I would love to give him the reigns at Slot WR and save about 8 million

I dont see any other teams giving him that money either

So if Welker isn't going to be tagged what does that mean for Talib?

Moss had 9 catches in 4 games

Branch in 06?

Branch's average season in his first stint with NE: 53 catches 686 yards
Welker's average season in NE: 112 catches 1243 yards

You obviousl didnt see any the Patriots games this year.

And Edleman is one of the most versitle players in the league, you cant dispute that

ETA an comparing Branchs stats to Welkers is laughable. It was a completely different offense he was playing in

Well, Brady's deal is a 21.5 million cap hit, so they can't afford to franchise Welker unless Brady restructures. If only Brady were not so selfish.

Didnt Brady restructure his contract just last year?

Oh god. The guy saying that a receiver who had 21 catches for 235 yards was "explosive" is saying I didn't watch any Patriots games

If by versitle you mean he can be a shitty nickle CB while also being a shitty slot receiver then yeah, he's versitle.

He was hurt most of the year. He made a lot of plays when he was on the field. I watched every game because im a fan and whatnot

By Versitle i mean being able to give similar production in the slot to Welker (which he has shown to be able to do) as well as be a great punt returner and make more plays down the field than Welker

Yeah his 32 catches and 355 yards over the pass 3 seasons are really similar to Welker
