If you can hit a long iron as well as a short iron, then yeah adding ~900 yards isn't a big deal. But for the average golfer shooting in the 90s-100s, the difference between an PW-8I into a green is vastly different than gripping and ripping a 5I or 4I. Much more chance for a long iron to slice 50 yards to the right or chunking it 30 yards down the fairway.

If you think you can get it around the green from the 7600 tees the same as you can from 6700 tees, then you could probably expect very little difference in scores as well. So yeah, you might play the same time from each tees, but the average golfer...hell no.

We are talking about average golfers, who, in my experience, tend to lean far more towards the slow side than the fast side, taking more time from further back.

And that says NOTHING about the average golfer.

Tell me this.

You play two rounds by yourself. You play the same pace both rounds.

You shoot an 81 round A.
You shoot a 95 round B.

You really think you don't see an increase from round A to round B?

If a round of 81 is traveling South at 60 mph and a worse round of 91 is traveling North at 45 mph, which round took the longest to complete, given that both rounds occurred from the same set of tees?

*Hint: Remember that a round of golf is 18 holes and that the course was approximately 7000 yards*

On my "home" course, Cypress Lakes, the whites normally play around 6450 and the blues(tips) 6600. It takes me the same amount of time to play 18 from either set and my score will be almost the same. Now if that is somewhere like say Lakewood and the white is 6500 and the tips are over 7000, my time won't change too much but the score would be at least 5-10 strokes difference. It affects me more on the par 3's and long 4's.

We used to do that and put one ball right in front of another in the bunker, so that when you hit them the last ball would go really high in the air and zip back like 30-40 feet
